The idea of the hotel and condo tower is nice, the water park is silly.

I also like the hotel and condo tower part. The waterpark is good to, but downtown?

Another Skywalk?

"Developers say the park is designed to pair with the proposed 14-story Midtown Village luxury hotel that may be built across the street. They say a skywalk could connect the two."

Oh no, here we go again. Let's hope maybe these guys can design a better looking skywalk then the one plan for CCC in downtown SLC.

Honestly I will be surprised if this project (especially the waterpark portion of it) sees the light of day; But... if it does, a skybridge would be more realistic here than in SLC. Washington Blvd. traffic is more comparable to State St. in Salt Lake. Its pretty wide and busy and hard to cross on foot.

I stayed a night at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, TX, earlier this month. The hotel has an attached 80,000 sf indoor water park that is open only to guests. I tell you, that place was freakin' awesome, and if Ogden can get something similar then good for them. Ogden needs more unique attractions in the city center to continue it's rebirth as a recreation mecca. It sounds like the Ogden proposal would be open to everyone -- no just hotel guests -- which could validate crime and overcrowding concerns, however.

I am too. It really has some nice qualities to it. As this area is built out I am realizing just how much potential and character it will have.

Every time I go downtown, The Junction is full of cars and people. It has been great to see. And it's only getting better.

Does the Ogden area have a water park of any kind? I think the idea has potential, although it does sound kind of silly.

Kind of. There is (or was) one with some slides in Riverdale. And there are a number of new splash pads in the area. The closest real water park is at Lagoon.

I remember going the the waterslides at Newgate Mall back in the 80's. The intense clorine smell was almost suffocating, but they were usable year round and provided a decent afternoon diversion. I've always been a fan of waterslides.

Downtown Ogden Webcam

I just found a webcam in downtown Ogden that has user control! It is located on top of the Ben Lomond Hotel tower and you can control the angle, direction and zoom. It has pretty decent resolution and is very close to real-time.

I think you will all appreciate it, it has a good view of The Junction and will be handy to watch downtown construction projects. Here is the link:

I wonder if there are any of these here in Salt Lake.

camera

that camera is really neat. You can control it via the web. I could zoom down to the junction and see construction in progress.

It has been great to see the changes in downtown Ogden. I realize that sometimes their plans are a bit over the top, but at least they have an administration that is willing to think out of the box.

I was downtown a few weeks ago and I could hardly even recognize the place. For all of you Ogdenites I have been singing songs of praise for you down in SLC.

As a sidenote, indoor water parks are extremely popular in Europe. When I was living abroad I saw them quite often and they were popular. The company that is proposing this park have built a number of them across the nation. That is certainly a good sign.

Agreed UTPlanner. I've been really impressed with Ogden's enthusiasm as of late.

Oh and Utaaah!, thanks for the reminder. I too used to enjoy the slides at the Newgate Mall. They were right above KB Toys I believe.
