I managed to spend a couple weeks in Italy last October, before the world fell apart. Rome is one of the most incredible places I've visited, although you don't seem to see it too often on this forum.
Fantastic! You captured the essence of the city well.
I was there in 2013 for Study Abroad and was supposed to be back last month for my honeymoon - hopefully to be made up soon. I agree that it is one of the most incredible places in the world. The city is dripping with history and culture everywhere you look. It also has a weird way of presenting itself differently depending on the viewer. It has so many different layers, both literally and figuratively, that it can kind of be whatever one wants it to be. And after over a millennia as the most important pilgrimage city in Europe, within its endless labyrinth of winding streets and tiny storefronts, there is a rich local culture interwoven right in with all of the tourist craziness.
