I get what you are saying and I agree. Some people are focused on the Varsity and BP, but I think you are speaking specifically to the buildings across the street like Goodfella's. Some of the most interesting and engaging neighborhoods in Atlanta are dominated by those type of buildings - notably Little Five Points, Virginia-Highland, Cabbagetown, West End, Castleberry, etc.
