Hopefully they renovate BC Place before the WC, because it's gross atm:

I don't think I'd realised this part of the project, but there's a heavy crane on site lifting pre-cast girders into place to widen the deck around the stadium.

Bad logo for the project on that application.
I know it's the floorplate, but it also looks like a prisoner bending over, waiting for his head to be sliced off.

Thanks. That drilling rig in the foreground has been working quite a bit, and it's not the same that are used for anchoring a hole. It's drilling deep vertical holes, which made me wonder if there's a geothermal element to this project, as well as the electric powered steam boilers?

Dumb question, will there be public access from Beatty to BC Place through this area when it's over?

The new plaza will connect directly to the concourse around the stadium.

The plaza is open directly from Georgia and with a pathway from Beatty between the office building.

This is one of the best projects in terms of public realm improvements in the entire region right now, it's amazing how a former "industrial" site is being transformed into an entertainment focused public plaza while still retaining the "industrial" use.

Yes, it's fantastic. I hope it's completed in time for World Cup in 2026. It will really make the stadium area.

The entire project definitely won't be done by then. The new steam plant should be complete next year so possibly they'll have the plaza and entertainment pavilion done by 2026.

Isn't the new steam plant in the tower over the existing steam plant? I'm curious how they're going to phase that?

Nevermind I see in the plans it's over the area they've cleared out now. From the BCUC docs it does seem like they expect construction to be relatively quick though and have the change over to the new steam plant in 2024.

The new plant is going on the area currently cleared. I believe all demo required for it's construction is done. Then once operational the existing plan can be decommissioned and demolished.

Earlier plans did have some of the existing plant retained but that's now been changed.

Says the Beatty plant will be ready in Q1 2024 (they are going to demolish the existing plant once it's up and running)

Thanks for that! Corrected myself while you posted this, that does make much more sense.
