I hope thisisforreal doesn't have to work to hard and can keep at least one eye open to see how all the toys are brought out of this hole
Thanks Philly-Drew!

I did manage to catch them pulling one of the toys out. It wasn't moving so I can't say for sure that it was coming out, but I assume they're done with excavators at this point.

Just a reminder--here's what blenfest said in his last update on February 16th:

Quote:
106 days behind schedule per Tutor but probably some time can be made up.
The steel pipe is a strut and a second one will be installed. It is to keep the soil in place since there isn't enough room to use soil nails.
Struts, Rakers, and Tie Backs take time to install before more digging can happen. Can't just dig a hole and wait for everything to collapse into it.
Reaching bottom is by June 27 or hopefully earlier.
Foundation mat pour by August 17 or hopefully earlier.

So apparently, they were able to make up a significant portion of the 106 days that they were behind schedule.

I love how excessively dramatic that cute little animation's music is.

It's looking like July 9/10. 6000 cubic yards.

That's around 750 trucks worth! Where are they all going to park, panic in the streets, what about the children? Wendy's should set up alittle stand for the truck drivers, a free burger with every load.

I wonder if its one continuous pour. Does anyone know how big the site is? From that one could figure out approximately how thick the pour will be.

Can't you lean out just alittle bit further-------

First you mention the possibility of losing your job, now you're talking about losing your camera; what's wrong? Don't you enjoy having untold thousands just waiting around for your latest posting?

Is all the equipment out of the pit?

About 240 ft x 100 ft, according to Google Maps' ruler. With a bit of maths, this suggests that the mat pour should be ~81 in thick. No, I didn't decide to do the math on the spur of the moment. I'm not weird.

8-10 cubic yards.

And to get a bit hypertechnical for a moment, since I see the terms "cement" and "concrete" used here interchangeably quite a bit, "concrete" is what we're talking about here. Concrete is the mixture of aggregate (crushed stone) and cement (binding agent) that these trucks carry, and that is poured into forms and around steel rebar to make these buildings we all love. "Cement," by itself, wouldn't hold up too well as a structural element. Not singling out you, per se, but I figured that folks into skyscrapers and building construction would want to know (and use) the correct terms.

Congratulations!

And thanks for all of these incredible photos. We'll be looking forward to seeing a bird's-eye view of the intervening progress when you return.

Negative, cancel the trip. You're going to explain the importance of your mission to your better half, I'm sure they will be understanding...

I mean congratulations! I just got back from a similar trip to Montreal and it was nice to get away for a while.

Maybe he can just tell her that he's taking her to the W for a staycation?

A couple days, ok I can see that. But a couple weeks, I don't know if that amount of time away from your mission can be allowed. Don't you have somebody, your boss perhaps, who can fill in for you?
