Found out the Fundy Quay project will have a second storey pedway that links to Market Square.

Looking forward to the new library, especially!
Heard they are hiring a new director.

No, nothing. Douglas St project not before Council yet either- it's not the church and adjacent lots just up thread. I'm just 'in the know' on some stuff.

A few months back someone at City Hall mentioned seven previously unannounced projects. Douglas is NOT one of them. Not sure if Main is. Bargain Shop certainly was. I think 300 Sydney was too. There's still a mystery UNB King Square development in the works too. So that leaves 4-5 projects in or near the core to be announced.

1. 300 Sydney
2. Bargain Shop
3. UNB project (would be great to see the BBA follow the MBA program uptown)
4-7 remain unknown.

Anyone have a guess what they might be? I am 99% certain the Wellington and St Vincent's are not among them.

Dramatically improved pediment design with streetside business space is in the most recent Council minutes (19 April). It's not finalized of course- they would like to see it take influences from the Ordnance Building.

Im told some have concerns about the "blank" walls at the street edge. Walking by, all you would see is a huge two storey concrete walls.
There is a thread for uptown projects too

I wish he was a little more specific- I assume he's referring to the lots north of the Beaverbrook, but something's happening on both sides of Douglas, and there's a big vacant stretch west of Harvey too.

Almost all the lots east of McDonald's have sold in the past four years. If I had to guess he's referring to that cluster. A project of that size would definitely fit the "large scale" term used by the city to describe up and coming projects. There is also the three lots that sold at the corner of Douglas and Main.

Will have storage space for over 1000 new autos.
Additional tracks to reduce shunting.
Berm, trees and barrier for sound and visibility.

Truck traffic to the highway could be an issue.
Depends on volume.

SJ has plenty of skyline presence. Focus should be on street interaction and neighbourhood compatibility. This building particularly is too long and bulky for anything taller and a taller build would make for a bulky and frankly poor impact on the overall skyline. Taller doesn't necessarily mean better.

I guess we all have our opinions. I think the higher you go would remove the short and stubbiness of this build. Its way to wide for the height of it now I feel. Yes Saint John has plenty of presence with its skyline, and this buildings height has created something different in the community where it stands when it went past the 4 story mark. Once again in my opinion.

And just like that, I see a couple guys in hard hats and vests snooping around the lots across from Place 400/the Beaverbrook.
