In a technical paper of CTBUH, I read that the floor spacing will be 4.000 m for all levels.
Technical floors, residential floors, hotel floors, etc., all will be 4.000 m.

This means theoretically 200+ floors.
I do not know yet if there will be any real "floors" in the actual top. It is rather slender.

The highest occupied floor will be at 654 meters / 2146 feet. So we have a ~350m / 1150ft tall spire here ... pretty underwhelming if you ask me.

We just have to wait, and see.

On the other hand, several contracts have already been signed. Project preparation is ongoing, and actual foundation works should start end of 2013.
It seems that Kingdom Tower will really be built.
Again: wait and see.

Unless these buildings are naturally occurring phenomena, they're never "organic."

They are looking for a senior planning manager:

http://kingdomtowerskyscraper.com/

I could apply, but I do not fit only that one requirement:
experience in highrise +300 m ...

Say what you want about the spire and space, but this building is amazing! I can't wait to see this rise. Only just now am I realizing that the little circle near the top of the building is an Observation deck, and not a helipad, as I had earlier believed.

I don't care where this is being built. I'm intrigued by the fact that it IS being built and is pushing construction heights. I haven't been keeping up pace with the conversation but...what is the rough estimate of how tall a (feasible) tower could be constructed today using currently available technology?

My understanding is essentially unlimited, but you will probably start to get stupidly skyrocketing costs around 800m (what this really is, with a 200m spire). The issue today isn't construction materials, but rather elevators to move people around.

Alabbar keen to build 1km plus tower in Asia, Taller than Kingdom Tower

KSA 15:51 - GMT 12:51

Emaar chairman Mohamed Alabbar is looking at plans to build a 1km plus tower in Asia, Arabian Business can reveal.
In an interview to be published on Sunday in the magazine, Alabbar, the man behind the world's current tallest tower, the Burj Khalifa, said: “Of course I want to. I am looking. I have a wish. I will try.”
Saudi Arabia’s Prince Alwaleed is currently developing the 1km high Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, which is set to take the Burj Khalifa’s crown.
However, Alabbar said his own project would be “a little taller” than the one in Jeddah.

He said: “The answer is yes I want to try. It is quite a task with safety issues and making sure it is done right. It’s typical human progress. We have done fabulous stuff here; we know what the value is.”
A location in Asia has already been identified and preliminary drawings done, Alabbar said.
Asked whether it was likely to happen, Alabbar said: “I would like that, it would be very special.”
Emaar has undergone a resurgence in the past year with its share price rising by more than 80 percent.
The 2012 results showed an 18 percent rise in net profits to $577m from $2.24bn of revenue.
The shopping malls and retail side of the business accounted for $740m in revenue last year – a 27 percent increase on the previous year.

Burj Khalifa was built, 828 m.
So, why could they not build KT?
Only 180 meters more. It has the same technical and logistic compexity as the height of Burj Khalifa. For the rest, it's the same thing.
