I seem to remember each town on the route has mostly set aside funding for stations already. I definitely remember Gonzales put together a master plan for a station renovation and small commercial area around it, and I thought LaPlace had also designated some money but can't remember. I haven't seen anything that explains what the $200 million grant would fund.

I know a lot of people just want to be rid of it, but if it were to be demolished, the chances of us getting a replacement skyscraper are slim to none. So to me if someone wants to buy it and redevelop, I'd much rather that than lose a skyscraper. Especially this one, because it helps create another corridor where such tall buildings are acceptable. This is the SkyscraperPage Forum, after all lol

The floor plates of the Plaza Tower are perfect for either residential or hotel development, and the views are outstanding. I hope the sale goes through soon, and we see either a new hotel brand or more apartments/condos go into the building. It's a significant part of the skyline that I would hate to see go.

I can see it coming back as a mixed use building. Maybe the first 20 or so floors being used for office space and the rest used for a hotel and residential with the top floor acting as a restaurant/sky lounge.

That building should not be demolished! Thats crazy . Also, I cant believe I actually agree with City Hall on something, but that letter is just weirdly timed. I get the city is trying to be careful because the goal is to get it developed and get the current landlord to sell it.

DOTD announces update of Airline at Clearview Intersection Improvements Project
Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 8:13:09 AM
Metairie, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that work will resume at the Airline at Clearview Intersection Improvements Project on Monday, August 21, 2023.

Initially awarded to Magee Excavation & Development in May 2021, the project was abandoned in March 2023 at approximately 70% complete. The bonding agent representing Magee worked through the summer to agree on a suitable replacement contractor.

Cycle Construction Company, LLC, based in Kenner, LA, will begin work and complete the $6.28 million project.

"We are grateful to area residents and commuters for their patience," said DOTD District Administrator Scott Boyle. "We are working diligently with all stakeholders to keep this project moving through to completion.”

Once finished, the project will provide widened lanes, restriping, new traffic signals, upgraded drainage, and improved access to adjoining residential neighborhoods.

Work still remaining on the project includes:
· Asphalt resurfacing on Airline Highway from Pasadena Ave. to Harang Ave.
· New traffic signal installation at Clearview and Central Ave.
· Minimal concrete and drainage work
· Full Striping

Alternating lane closures will be necessary for crews to perform work, so the public should be prepared for delays. To limit inconvenience, lane closures on weekdays will be limited to 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.

The new estimated time for completion is late 2023.

The David Crockett Volunteer Fire Department is the Oldest Continuously Active Volunteer Fire Company in the country, beginning in 1841 as a bucket brigade along the banks of the Mississippi River in Gretna, LA.
For their new facility situated one block from the I-90 Expressway and directly adjacent to the original David Crockett Fire Company Anthony J. “Tony” Labruzza Memorial Fire Station, TPA has designed a new station intended to serve as a gateway into historic Downtown Gretna.
This multifunctional space is founded in resiliency and community. Built to the standards of a Risk Category IV essential facility, this station is to be utilized to house the entire fire company during hurricanes and tornadoes so they can swiftly begin disaster response during and after the weather event. It also contains administrative office space, living quarters for up to 16 volunteers, public meeting and training space, as well as a new 4-lane apparatus bay housing 8 trucks.
More about this exciting project to come.
Client: City of Gretna
Tenant: David Crockett Fire Company
Contractor: Gibbs Construction
Engineer: Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc.

With these major renovations, the Superdome can definitely compete with those newer NFL stadiums. I just hope they can do the same thing to the Smoothie King Center if they opt not to build a new arena for the Pels. Btw, what about Champions Square ? Will they be doing upgrades to it (i.e sound stage upgrades, more green space)? Also how’s Charity Hospital construction progressing ?

I saw an email Tulane's president sent out to everyone there last week that mentions the Charity redevelopment and other downtown campus work are "moving forward," and he touted being the anchor tenant and bringing the block back to life. I didn't see any more details than that, but it's clearly still happening if he's making a public statement like that.

The site seemed to be cleaned up a bit last time I was by there, added a new main rendering sign out front too. I think the main question is timeline at this point.

Welcome Back, and Welcome Home

Our downtown campus is bustling as well. A major renovation of the School of Medicine’s research labs in the Hutchinson Building is well underway, and the university’s most ambitious project to date — the rebirth of the iconic Charity Hospital building — is moving forward. As the anchor tenant occupying one-third of the million-square-foot space of Charity – as well as the redevelopment of the Tulane Downtown Hospital complex – we will bring a long-abandoned block back to vibrant life with several Tulane schools, a new nursing program, and the Innovation Institute alongside apartments, retail and restaurants that will welcome and engage the community. This transformation, along with our recent partnership with LCMC Health and expansion to East Jefferson General Hospital, will establish New Orleans as a hub of bioinnovation and Tulane as a nationally recognized academic medical center for destination health care.
