-9C with a wind chill of -19 and mainly sunny. Looked like an awful day. I had no intention going outside today.

Low of -12C (wind chill of -25) last night.

The warmspot was Daniel's Harbour, NL at 14.7C.

Warmest low was Maple Creek, SK at 5.4C. Well well. Unusual the record warmest low. Most often, it's daily high for them. I guess the bananas are creating their own microclimate and the increased vegetation is pushing the dewpoint and low higher.

Sunny, and then cloudy, and then rainy. High of 7c

The Gastown Steam Clock's popularity will always mystify me. Why do people stand around it for so long just to get a picture of some steam coming out of the whistles? I decided to hang around, and see what the big deal is.
I think it comes down to the fact that there isn't a ton of touristy stuff that's worth taking pictures of downtown.

And just about every other kind of bloom or blossom seems to be a fraction of what it had been in past years.
The camellias that I've seen blooming have freezer burns.

Even moderately hardy evergreen trees, bushes and shrubs have been shedding a lot of leaves.

A major aspect that made the January cold snap so damaging was not just how extreme it was, but that until that point temperatures had been extremely mild (many places recording their warmest or second warmest December ever). Many milder locations had yet to even record a freezing temperature yet, and then bam! Sudden freak deep cold snap. Just the worst combination.

A strong easterly wind suppressed temperatures in the Red River Valley today. Today's high at YWG was -8°, about 3° off the seasonal norm. Not a pleasant day in the least, though there was some late afternoon sun.

March will come in like a lamb, a few clouds forecast tomorrow and looking for 5°, but then a storm appears to be brewing for the weekend. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm dreadfully sick of winter I'd welcome the precip as I don't want to see a repeat of last spring's drought.

Quite the mixed bag of weather today. Take your sunglasses and your umbrella.

Thursday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 7 C, the low was 3 C.

This will be my last post for a while.
I'm finally having my cancer surgery tomorrow morning (after 15 months and several postponements).
Really looking forward to spring (whenever that will be).

Cloudy, sunny and snowing lol. I'm in awe how fast the snow has melted. Even in my backyard it's well over half gone.

A wait of 15 months for cancer surgery is an outrage, no matter the tumour type.

I hope your malignancy is one of the more indolent types, where timing is less of an issue.

Prayers for a prompt recovery. Looking forward to seeing more photos from you in the future!

All the best Mcminsen! We await your return

A lot of melting here the past few days, snow is back down to a normal depth and the snowbanks which were really obstructing visibility while driving are back to reasonable heights.

Snow squall watch today as the cold front passed through and temperatures dropped. Currently off and on snow squalls and -5 at just before 10:30am. Could see an upward of 10cm but I suspect those heaviest bands will likely set up on the southern Avalon as opposed to St. John's.

Best wishes, Mc!

I figured that with yesterday's below zero temps that there would be a thin layer of ice somewhere along the creek. Nope. And water running clear again after the rain from a couple days ago muddied it up.

Currently -14C (windchill -26) in Moncton at 10 AM and sunny, struggling to get to -5C this afternoon.

The next five days however will be well above zero (up to +11C). Very cyclothymic weather!!

After a cold day yesterday, one of only 2-3 days all winter with any significant amount of snow, we are back up to +8 today. Although temps never went above freezing, the sun melted most of it by the end of the day. Already back to bare ground this morning.

Increasingly looking like I will go all winter without having to shovel my driveway. I technically shoveled it once, but it was a very small amount of snow which melted the next day. I was looking for an excuse to shovel that day, I normally would have left it.

No below freezing days in the 2-week forecast, or even any days with highs below +6 degrees. Increasingly looking like it's going to be a warm, early spring. Haven't had a lot of those in Ontario for the last decade or so, so I'm hopeful.

Squalls have been intense since early this morning. Strong winds and whiteout conditions. EC finally updated it's watch (beginning this evening) to a warning haha.

My previous record as a homeowner was my first year in this home (2015-16). 4 shovellings. It's been 3 this year and one of those was for 1 cm, but it was cold and sun wasn't coming out the next day. The other 2 were for 4-5 cms with one melting by the next day and the other taking 36 hours. I could tell based on the people who didn't shovel.

I'm always getting deliveries so I make sure I shovel and lay salt. As for salt, I do my own driveway and the elderly neighbour's, along with her backyard walkway. Used only a fraction of what I bought in November. Now it's taking up a good chunk of space. But at least I re-organized my shed not long ago.

I've only fired up the snowblower twice this year. This is an unthinkable circumstance in Moncton.
