Same thing at the sound end. Grade separate NB bypass lanes overtop of existing PTH 75 SB lanes.

Diamond interchange at PTH 23.
Yea does anyone have a rough idea of the population of a town along an interstate before they get more than one grade separation? I understand other factors are in play such as importance of the intersection roadway/highway but for the most part I can imagine population scaling fairly linearly with the quantity of interchanges that are built to service a town.

3 interchanges is probably too many for ~2000, and just one would probably suffice. Sure the businesses on the current 75 alignment would lose their minds but sometimes life doesn't go your way.

They can just move to the interchange by 23 in that case.

That very well explains why freeways never happened in Winnipeg, too many people opposed it. That's why some highway projects never happen, people can stop it

Oh yea, any thoughts about these two?

Looking pretty good.

Virden 3 interchanges and a rail overpass.
PTH 83
Rail overpass with road connection below.
King St.
PR 257.

Elie
Basically, just the one interchange at PR 248. You could have ramps further down in each direction for traffic to exit in advance of the interchange. But no entrance ramps anywhere except at PR 248. If they want farm access or something else, put in a flyover.

Could put an interchange at either end of town. But seems like overkill for Elie.

Considering how consistently blue Morris is provincially now may be a good time to deal with the Morris bypass and interchange.

That could work. Dumbell interchange at Elie and a flyover one mile away? I'd sooner convert that to a riro and have an interchange at the Bernard Road

And yes, a service road needs to be constructed between Elie and 332, and between 332 and 424, but that segment may be a bit hard as there are transmission towers going alongside hwy 1

That maintenance yard at further west really gave me a hard time. I was like, "Darn it, why can't it be at JCT 248 as well..."
Admittedly, I have no idea what's an appropriate distance for overpasses, and this is where I've come to hate designing freeways in the Prairies.

In case you were confused, I still want a bridge at 248, but I'd rather have a distance of 2 to 4 miles away for an interchange. Each Provincially Marked Highway would get an interchange, but farm access roads, it would depend. I'd put bridges where there is more people living. Or if not a bridge, a Riro intersection for temporary

Carberry, Manitoba

Ps: I timed myself: 8 minutes. That’s a record time for me.

Nice. They'd have to move the service roads back at the interchange. They likely wouldn't want them combined with the ramps. Otherwise, seems quite easy to get something done here..

Nice, but wouldn't you want #5 going over TCH rather than the way it's drawn now?

TCH is carrying much more traffic at higher speeds than #5 is, so make the lighter SB/NB traffic deal with an overpass, no?

For shame, I forgot to draw the overpass there.
Hmm… good question. It depends on space. If there are less than 300 m to the roundabout, maybe TCH can go over or under 5.

A good example of an interchange for this location would be the simple diamonds proposed for the south perimeter. There's one at Symington Road in this PDF.
https://www.gov.mb.ca/mti/hpd/pth100...s/segment6.pdf

The access roads need to be pushed out quite far., about 250m from centreline of the highway.

I'm sure that would likely be the design for the Interchange, but I would sooner perfer a Parclo A4 or a Dumbell interchange, but at least it would be better than what's there now

Got to love all the fancy provincial highway proposals in a pretty much broke province which has a hard time even removing snow and ice from it's major highways!

That was clearly evident this past weekend when MB-75 was closed from Morris to the border due to ice. And then magically, once you cross the 49th, I-29 was clear and bare.

I believe it's because a mystical force-field rises from the earth on the 49th, which prevents ice buildup on the roads south of that line. Natural phenomenon, one we have no control over. You can hardly blame us for things that are just accidents of physical geography.

While not a mystical forcefield, the USA-Canada border represents a massive jurisdictional change and a 10 fold increase in a population paying federal gas tax that provides 50% of NDDOTs funding.
