This is why I travel. I never went to so many places that I have this year than my entire 32 yrs on this planet. Traveled 2 countries and 11 different states all within 6 months. Talk about social distancing, nothing beats the open road and having nature at the palm of your hands. I know everyone is different which is why I encourage people to find themselves. But we gotta be honest here, this virus isn't going away so we must learn to adapt.

Ive been going on tons and tons of hikes all over Texas on the weekends. It's been absolutely phenomenal. I've also been doing pick-up at some of my favorite spots and going to parks where I can get distance and eating outside. Also went to the drive-in movie last weekend. I know our neighbors a lot better than I used to since everyone is always in their backyards now, lol

I've already had 4 family members die from the disease. It doesn't matter if you're healthy. Wear a damn mask, it's not for you.
That sucks. I'm really sorry to hear that. My mother in law, that is, my sister in law's mother, she was diagnosed with it. She's doing ok, though. She's asymptomatic and appears to be doing ok. The only other person I know of, who I had not met, who had it was the brother of a family friend who died. I don't know how old he was, but his sister is around 65 I believe. My mother in law is 57.

Could not agree more!!! Especially 11, 12, and 21

Careful though, you are going to offend a lot of overly sensitive people with your self-accountability stance.
Nothing is ever anyone's fault in the 21st century!

So, is this a "no politics" zone or are we gonna continue to let someone post the equivalent of Boomer facebook memes about avacado toast and participation trophys?

Which part of my comment is political? Honest question.

There's no mention of political parties, government, government policies, or anything remotely approaching those subjects.

The only subject there is simple self-accountability and responsibility.
If that is "political" to some people, then its probably time for them to do some long overdue honest introspection.

I must be staring at skyscrapers too much - when did avocado toast become political?

AUSTIN | Misc. Discussions - No Politics

"politics - the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power."

"discussion - the action or process of talking about something in order to reach a decision or to exchange ideas."

Discussing the greatest worldwide event of modern times is highly important, and germane to skyscrapers, and can be done leaving out politics. If people cannot debate a subject, or even mention it, then they should tune out. The rest of us are perfectly capable of conversing, leaving "politics" out of the conversation, sans vitriol.

If you have something to say of value, let's debate it. This isn't twitter, leave out the "drive by" comments....this is "Misc. Discussions" after all, not "Misc. Shit Posts".

Exactly.

Except in today's world (and especially online and in the cesspool that is Twitter and Facebook), there's no such thing as real discussion anymore.
It's simply get on board with whatever the trendy social hot topic of the week is or you will be shamed, vilified and, if you get the social media mob wound up enough, they'll doxx you and come after your job.

"Let's have an honest discussion" = "I'm going to lecture you on my position and shut down all objections and responses you may have against it."

Welp, it looks like The ATX has abandoned us, folks. I had been busy and hadn't been on the forum every single day over the last two+ weeks, but I did notice his imgur links weren't working. Then I noticed he hadn't been on in a few days or so. I remembered that he also posted on Urban Planet, and he left a farewell message there. It had to do with the riots and protests and him losing his appetite for urban development because of it.

I even sent him an email a week ago, but he hasn't responded, so I guess he's not coming back.

Dang. I'd been wondering where he'd gone. He did a LOT of work to keep this place afloat. He'll definitely be missed.

Well damn. I know I'm the youngest one here, but it's still sad to see users that have been active nearly my entire life leave the community. He did a lot of work around here.

Hopefully in time he will comeback. Sometimes this forum can be easy to leave, but hard to stay away from. Maybe this is just a sabbatical. Everything that's going on is affecting everyone to some degree. I kind of felt that rude post by that douche bag might have been somewhat of a tipping point seeing how ATX was getting frustrated with anything even remotely political being talked about here. My advise, its time to stop watching the news, wear a mask in public, and focus on the things that are right in this world. I have to add...I was just in HEB a few hours ago, I saw a lady pushing a cart with a very young child in the cart seat wearing a matching mask. That was waaaaayyyyy too cute!!! Made me smile.
