Hmmm - over at Hudson's Bay, they installed clear glass awnings to see the building above.
Here, it's the opposite...(?)

I think 725 would look so much sleeker without those protruding glass boxes with the CF logo on them.
They contribute to that busy, hodge-podge look that seems to detract so much from the building. Are they really that necessary?

good! The awnings at the Bay are always incredibly filthy. It looks terrible.

The CF logo will be coming down soon, to be replaced in front of the second floor with Pacific Centre branding as seen in some of the renderings I think.

Pics by me last night.

In sequence from north to south along Granville.

@ Rotunda entrance - large mezzanine will increase street presence.
Note that the mezzanine has two levels.
I wonder what kind of retail will be on the mezzanine - possibly a café?

I think there's a wheelchair ramp on the left (as well as the stack of emergency stairs).

Finished ceiling height of the main area looks lower than for Eaton's/Sears.
(the stack of emergency stairs is to the right)

Granville (near Robson) entrance is just to the left of this pic.

Posted by Yellow Fever yesterday.

The concrete beam above the Robson/Howe entrance still hasn't been clad.

Thanks for these!

I hope those tiles are somewhat graffiti-proof or easily cleanable as they'll be targeted on that stretch of Granville.

I happened to be by there this week, and noticed the banner saying the retail will open Spring 2015.

A gather this is referring to the mall extension under Nordstroms?

That's right.

It's a bit vaguer than Nordstrom's specific date.

Unfortunately, that was exactly the same thought I had, the first second I saw the photo.

Nordstrom will not be lackadaisical in the upkeep of their facade like Sears was, I would not worry about Graffiti or anything like that.

What a great find!! I love how he chose white to because of our gloomy climate, it's so true, we could use more white.

If we were truly world-class we would have consulted Pelli regarding the re-glazing and not jumped at Cheng and his team. Lost opportunity for sure, it original white and monolithic quality was truly unique, sadly it was horribly altered and poorly maintained over the years leading to the 'urinal' nickname.

It took 30 - 40 years to get the 'urinal' nickname and the new version garnered the 'frankenbuilding' moniker before it was even complete!

The question I have is did Mr. Cheng ever consider consulting Mr. Pelli 's input into this project? Of course, the client is Cadillac Fairview, not Mr. Pelli.

I wonder if wouldn't have been better to simply remove the curved addition, and update the cladding while keeping the form as is (or as it was).

To be fair, the architect may not have been given too much latitude by the client in the design of the project.
