Does anyone on this thread know what is being built to the immediate south of the Delta Center. There is about six or seven stories of steel being built but I have no idea what it is. Is it part of the renovation of the Delta center?

Does anyone on this thread know the status of the 16 to 17 story condo to be built directly to the west of the Astra tower?

Supposedly. It also can be used where trucks regularly park to eliminate the need for plugs.

More demolitions downtown

Noticed that they started tearing down the old Travelodge on North Temple (at about 150 West) this week. Looks like the neighboring LDS Church West Office Building is fenced up and soon to come down too. Not surprised by the motel, but I am surprised about the office building. It's a fairly substantial structure that really isn't too old. I think it used to be state offices before the church bought it 15 or 20 years ago.

I assume this is all to make more parking for the temple open house.

Salt Lake City has a clearer vision for historic Japantown as part of downtown changes

By Carter Williams, KSL.com | Posted - Nov. 18, 2025 at 9:05 p.m. - https://www.ksl.com/article/51407199...wntown-changes

What remains of Japantown, next to the Salt Palace Convention Center, in Salt Lake City on July 31, 2024. Salt Lake City leaders said Tuesday they might be able to fully fund a major overhaul of the street by the next fiscal year budget...

1. I wish this was a more substantial tribute to what Japantown used to be, and hopefully it will become a community gathering place moving forward.

2. The raaaacism in the comments I've seen about this project in various places online has been truly a sight to behold. Not surprising, but also...kind of surprising? Gross.

UTA plans major redevelopment near North Temple FrontRunner station
https://kutv.com/news/local/uta-plan...runner-station

Quote:
SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — The Utah Transit Authority moved forward with plans to transform land surrounding several of its rail stations, including a major redevelopment next to the North Temple FrontRunner Station.

While the station itself would remain largely unchanged, the seven acres around it could look very different within the next few years.

Does anyone know exactly what UTA owns and doesn't own in the area surrounding that station?

Here’s the new name — and logo — for the next Olympics in Utah

Everyone remembers Salt Lake City as the host of the 2002 Winter Games.

But when the Olympics and Paralympics for athletes with disabilities return 3,000 days from Monday, organizers want the world to know it’s the state, not just the capital city, that’s putting on the show.

So the new official name of the next Winter Games unveiled Monday?
Utah 2034
I hate this with all the intensity of 1000 burning suns.

I think I joked about this in the past but I'm surprised the legislature hasn't forced Salt Lake to change the airport name to Utah International Airport.

I'm a bit unclear, it seems like the logo might change in 2029. I hope so, because that is an absolutely hideous design.

We already knew they were going to force a change to Utah 2034 so that is no surprise. Annoying, but not surprising.
