$150 million Mixed-Income Village planned near Mercedes Benz Stadium.

Developers have unveiled plans for a large-scale, mixed-income village near Mercedes-Benz Stadium they say will boost Atlanta’s affordable housing stock and continue a resurgence that’s percolating west of Midtown and downtown. The Atlanta Housing Authority has chosen a developer, Hunt Companies, who will partner with Atlanta-based Oakwood Development Group, from a pool of bidders. In the last three decades, Hunt has built more than 90 projects and 12,000 units with different housing authorities, officials said.

The $150-million, mixed-use master plan calls for a variety of about 700 new housing units, with commercial facilities, communal spaces, a new fitness center, and retail offerings dotted throughout. The village would rise along Northside Drive — on the 12-acre site of the former Herndon Homes public housing project — about mile north of the Atlanta Falcons’ new roost.

Does anyone know what's going on with the Mercedes Benz HQ? I haven't heard anything about it in a very long time. Hopefully this will spur nearby plans like 100 Northpark to be constructed as well.

Good! I was starting to wonder about that one and I think it's one of the more well thought-out developments in the pipeline.

I had to check SmartaAlone's list for this one as well. I love that there is so much happening that it becomes difficult to keep track!

There is a beautiful 3-story brick residential building between this site and Center Stage on West Peachtree that looks historic and I hope it continues to survive. As many times as I've been to Center Stage I had never noticed it. I hope this project breathes some life into that end of Midtown...it wouldn't take a lot with its proximity to Atlantic Station and a few other amenities - plus the Arts Center MARTA station.

Spring Street around this project is a real mess. There is a horribly ugly old parking deck on the opposite corner at Spring and 18th that is a real eyesore. I assume that the old house next door will be gone soon. It would be nice to preserve some of these structures but the houses usually don't make it.

Hizzoner Reed is agressively pursuing a new plan to try and close the Peachtree Pine Shelter and replace it with a high-tech state of the art Emergency Response Station (police and fire combined).

http://www.ajc.com/news/news/reed-wants-to-close-homeless-shelter-to-build-emer/nr3Q7/

I will believe this when I see it happen. I have a feeling this shelter will never die.

At least it's still on the table to try and do something about it, I'll believe it when I see it too. Too bad, cause the area between Tech Square to Downtown would explode.

That section of Peachtree has been held hostage by this shelter for long enough. It's such a beautiful building...I hope something happens there soon.

I'd love to see the mayor work with churches and corporations to develop 3 or 4 smaller magnet help locations around the edges of downtown, where some light work could be offered in exchange for a pledge not to drink and do drugs. Maybe the Falcons could sponsor one; maybe Coke, Ga-Pac etc.

That's the Belvedere House, it's not going anywhere. Ascent is on the adjacent lot.

I know it's not part of Ascent, but I always worry for the smaller brick apartment buildings in Midtown - especially since the Neel Reid one on 7th went without much of a fuss. The Belvedere House is really beautiful.

That Engineer Bookstore Gas station also filed for its land development permit.

This Cushman and Wakefield Marta Effects whitepaper still shows a few proposals I thought were dead as planned: http://www.cushwakeatlanta.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/CW-MARTA-Whitepaper_Pages.pdf

50 Allen Plaza (the skyline defining tower that was to go in parking lot across from W downtown)
1400 Peachtree Street (750k sq ft project, dunno what this one is)
Metropolitan Center (17th and W. Peachtree Mixed-use project)
17th street (another large office 440k sq ft unsure what this refers to)
1125 Peachtree Street
Lindbergh Tower (225k sq ft. office building near Lindbergh station)
3346 Peachtree Rd. (350k sq. ft. office, never heard of this and nothing turns up in search except the old Sovereign building rezoning)

Also new render of 98 14th

I have nothing to back up my assumption, but believe the list to be speculative. Developing 1125 Peachtree, Metropolitan Center, and Dewberry's 1400 Peachtree St. in addition to SLS, 98 14th, and 1138 Peachtree would be a silly couple of years for Atlanta though. The effects would be incredible for the area.
