just a guess but it's likely the top floors were not heated as those are going to be the last ones to get finished out. ice developing on the east facing windows may not be a problem going forward

I mean, I worked at 60 Wall St and they had to close the sidewalk whenever snow/ice melted.

The glass actually IS curved. The glass itself wasn't actually manufactured with a curve in it, but through a process called cold warping, the glass is flexible enough to be molded into a warped shape. Glass at the top of the building is as much as 4 inches out of plane.

Also, the curvature of the sail means that nearly every piece of glass on the west elevation is unique. While glass may only differ by a millimeter or two from one panel to the next, it was necessary in order to get the glass to fit within the frame of the curtainwall. Because of this, "attic stock" glass was not feasible for the west elevation.

Cool! Thanks for the explanation!

Exclusive: Architect involved in Austin's new Google tower outlines considerations that led to unique design

Quote:
Soon, Googlers will head to their workday at the sailboat skyscraper in Downtown Austin, right at the edge of Lady Bird Lake.

The tower, also known as Block 185, is nearing its completion of early summer. In the works for nearly five years, the project came together through grit and calculated design work.

I adore that street level interaction! The bubbled/curved glass ::chef's kiss::
I forget, there's just one large retail spot for this?

Saw some new lighting on instagram last night, part of someone's story and I couldn't get a clear screenshot. But the crown was lit up purple, matching the Indy, and some of the balconies on the southern side were lit up with the same staircase effect we've seen, but more than I remember seeing so far.

Definitely at least one retail spot.

I'm also excited for what I believe is a sidewalk/right-of-way along the creek facing side of the building between Cesar Chavez and Second street.

Really wish the Cesar Chavez side of the building had a better pedestrian experience than it inevitably will though.

This may not be up to date anymore but I believe there are two retail spaces. One along 2nd and Nueces that will likely host the restaurant, and a secondary space along the creek which looks sized to have a small coffee shop or something similar!

Floorplan: https://austin.towers.net/wp-content...floor_plan.jpg

Sort of a shame so much of the frontage, especially on CC isn't very pedestrian friendly but I guess that's the consequence of the site itself more than anything.

I haven't seen any indication of this. The only walkable area is the covered area patio area which I assume will have some kind of restaurant seating. There is a trail on the other side of the creek.

The creek side is mostly tenant amenity, so it will be activated, but not public. There should still be public access from 2nd to Cesar Chavez, but not a trail.
