Let us not forget that people in southern Utah are also a bit crazier, imo.

Now in other news ...

Herriman has something pretty sweet going on. They are routing 12600 South north of town in a bypass instead of pushing everyone through the old Main Street. I think it's part of that huge development they are doing.

Just remember guys, there is this collaboration called wikipedia, where you can go and learn about almost any topic your heart desires, and even better yet, they use sources.

So are there any updates on the project (I forgot the name) where the big field is? Is it supposed to start soon? Or has it already started? Obviously I don't go to Herriman very much (that is, if I've ever even been to Herriman).

I can see the benefit of reducing traffic on Main St., but it seems that building a highway bypass is usually the first step in killing a small town's Main street

Don't worry. It's 100% residential. There's no business to kill on Main St.

Century's first decade changed face of Utah

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...nged-Utah.html

First they changed the name but kept the sign. Later they took down the sign and knocked over the building. Then they dug up the entire mall, name and all. And so, as the first decade of the third millennium came to an end, ZCMI was no longer a store or a mall or an icon, it was a relic.

Down with the old and up with New Urban,...

Valley Fair redevelopment is moving forward

By Jennifer W. Sanchez
The Salt Lake Tribune

In-N-Out Burger is now open in Draper and West Jordan, and the West Valley City location should be open by mid-spring.

Valley Fair Mall officials expect the California-based company to open as part of the mall's multiphase, roughly $85 million redevelopment project. The burger joint is scheduled to open first, but the rest of the project's second phase -- including Ross Dress For Less, PETCO, Famous Footwear, N.Y.P.D. Pizzeria and Farrs Fresh Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt Cafe -- is slated to open in the fall, said Gary Hall, the mall's leasing director.

Even through the hard economic times for developers, Hall said the project is moving forward and bringing shoppers and jobs to the area.

The single-level mall, built in the late 1960s, is slated to almost double in size. It sits at I-215 and 3500 South. Phase two will be the revamping of the mall's main entrance on the west side of the building facing 2700 West. It will include more than 100,000 square feet of new stores as well as a plaza and park.

Other businesses already open as part of the project include Costco, Wells Fargo bank, Winger's Grill & Bar and Olive Garden.

I would like to see some Renderings if there are any of Valley Fair Mall. I drive by there each day for work on I-215. So far it doesn't look like much has been done. Right now it looks like New Mall Signs are going up on the East side of the mall next to the freeway.

Sorry Guys, I fixed it. The renderings are there now. I guess I just posted them wrong.

I don't know how I feel about the interior looking like a faux main street. I think it will look like the old 49th Street Galleria

Thanks for that post CofIKid. Agree Projects, still just a mall, but definately a big improvement over the old foot print. I like the layout of pics one, four and six. I think it's short sighted of the lenders and or developers, not to fund for the building of at least some kind of apartment situation, on top of at least a few select areas. I really do think there would be a definite demand amongst many for a nice apartment in that setting. At the very least, it would seem that the banks could select a couple of key locations for a test run of a moderate amount of units, with underground or a discreetly placed, covered parking terrace.

In the first rendering, it is good to see that the developer is trying to mimick something similar to a "main street". From ground level, to some extent, it should lessen the appearance of suburbia. Hopefully, maybe in the future, the roof of the mall can also be removed.

The one thing I see that negatively impacts appearance is the loading dock to the left of Ross. Perhaps some green buffer would be helpful or perhaps a mural of a fake store front.
