Also nice to have a hotel right next to the UPT, especially if they start service to Mobile and Baton Rouge.

New hotel planned for St. Charles Avenue from developer of Hotel St. Vincent, Drifter

https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...e7642cb4e.html

New Orleans developer Jayson Seidman, whose other hotel projects include the Hotel St. Vincent and The Drifter, is preparing to break ground on a five-story, 40-room hotel at the edge of the Garden District on St. Charles Avenue.

Construction of the 34,000-square-foot hotel is expected to begin in October on a vacant lot between Aline and Foucher streets, and is the first hotel built from the ground up on the major thoroughfare in years.

Seidman on Wednesday declined to provide details about the name or branding of the hotel. But he said it will be closely affiliated with the nearby Columns hotel, which he co-owns with family and manages through his hotel development and management company, Sandstone.

“It will have a separate name and its own very different feel, but it will be closely affiliated with the Columns and will be managed by them,” said Seidman, who estimated the cost of the project will approach $20 million.

Convention Center hotel discussions to resume

https://neworleanscitybusiness.com/b...ons-to-resume/

A headquarter hotel for the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, planned prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and shelved as a shutdown of the city began, will be revived for discussion at a Sept. 21 board meeting, according to Michael Sawaya, Convention Center president.

Tom Hazinski, managing director of HVS Convention, Sports & Entertainment Facilities Consulting, which conducted an initial study of the hotel in 2018, is expected to deliver an updated one to the Exhibition Hall Authority Board.

The hotel would be connected to the furthest upriver hall of the Convention Center and developed by Texas-based Matthews Southwest Hospitality and local businessman Darryl Berger. It has previously been proposed as a 1,200-room, Omni-branded hotel.

The concept has been on hold for more than two years as tourism took a dive, but now that the Convention Center is at approximately 90% of pre-pandemic levels, it’s time to revisit the plan, said Sawaya.

“We look forward to presenting the new study to the Board Authority, and then from there we will begin discussions again with our developer to revisit the plans for the hotel,” Sawaya said. “Our convention and visitor business has rebounded a lot more rapidly than we previously expected, so the study will show there is a definite need for a hotel to connect to our convention center, as is the case in many big cities. The lack of having a hotel attached to our Center is a critical missing factor that would bring much more activity and keep us competitive.”

I think both projects are moving forward. It always made sense to me to have two of them.. one anchoring one side of the complex upriver and the other downriver..so if you were to be hosting two shows at the same time they each could have their own headquarters hotel

I hope that's the case because when I was in NOLA for the SHRM Convention a few months ago, there weren't many options for hotels on the LGD side of the Convention Center, since they were all booked up. That's when I learned just how long of a walk it is. Brutal.

Emeril Lagasse-backed group buys Baronne Street space

The address comprises 9,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space

Allan McDonnel, president of The McDonnel Group, which handled construction, said in mid-June that the ground-floor space will feature a “very prominent restaurateur,” with an announcement coming soon. A spokesperson for Lagasse did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

South Market Properties LLC sold the space to Lagasse’s restaurant group.

I sure hope they get some movement on both projects soon. It has always amazed me that with all of the big events and high demand as evidenced by the boom in airbnbs, we haven't seen any large hotel openings since the Hyatt Regency reopened. Aside from attracting more conventions, we are going to have a hard time landing Superbowls, Final Fours, etc. without more capacity. It would be great to have something opened in time for the next Superbowl, but that's looking unlikely. A large hotel and more parking on the whale lot could also help grow the cruise business.

New Orleans Jazz Museum Awarded $900K Federal Grant

Located in the former U.S. Mint in New Orleans, the Jazz Museum plans to upgrade its facility by remodeling the first-floor cafe, building an outdoor stage and making other improvements. The Louisiana Museum Foundation estimates the investment will support a total of 55 new and retained jobs, and could generate as much as $33 million in private investments by attracting new visitors to the city.

I think this is awesome. Every time I come back to New Orleans to visit, I wish there was a great hotel uptown of Napoleon I could stay at (and this will be at least close). The Chloe is nice but can be crazy expensive and the pool being 21+ is awesome but doesn't work for me b/c I have kids (definitely better for the other guests). I haven't stayed at the Marsh, but it looks cool although maybe not as nice as The Chloe. Glad there will be another good option and I think Jayson Seidman does great hotels.

I am SO thrilled to see the 327 Bourbon St project. That building with graffiti was awful. I am curious: do you know if this is just to clean it up (as in someone forced to?), or is this project for a business opening? Nonetheless, one less blighted building, thank goodness.

Gayle Benson's Faubourg Brewing merges with 3 others to build regional craft power

Sounds like great news. Essentially a larger regional brewer (44,000 barrels per year) is merging "50/50" with Foubourg (12,500 per year) and is relocating its headquarters here.

Also interesting to know that Abita is estimated to be the 16th largest craft brewer in the country at 140,000 barrels per year. Knew they were fairly large but that is pretty impressive...

https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...21229c5af.html

Faubourg Brewing Co., the New Orleans-based brewery purchased five years ago by Tom and Gayle Benson, has merged with three other regional breweries owned by an Alabama private equity firm with the aim of building a regional craft beer powerhouse.

The Benson Group and Wiregrass Equity Partners of Montgomery, Alabama, said Thursday that a Wiregrass-owned holding company Made By The Water LLC that owns craft beer breweries in the Carolinas and Florida will relocate its headquarters to the huge Faubourg Brewery in New Orleans East as part of the deal.

The financial terms were not disclosed by the two privately-owned companies but they described the deal as "a 50/50 partnership", which would include additional investment by the Benson Group with plans to add more brewing capacity and to acquire additional craft beer companies.

"Our goal is to help New Orleans become as well known for its beer as it is for its cuisine and to see the local craft beer industry continue to grow and create quality jobs,” said Gayle Benson in a prepared statement. “Our partnership with Made By The Water allows us to grow the Faubourg brand, and bring in a partner that is a leader in building craft beer brands."

Seems like its first about addressing the exterior but of course if thats all cleaned up and fixed I cant imagine the owners not getting a tenant to help cover that cost too
