That's great if it happens, but not too great for my investment group...

I may know a little more about that sports bar if you could perhaps let me know the developer/owner's name. I think my uncle's company did some interior work/window replacement on it... and my uncle knows the plans.

People won't want to hear it, but Eastchase is actually hurting Montgomery.

Bordered by what used to be vacant warehouses, the so-called alleyway at one time served as an unloading dock for the railroad but not anymore. This part of history is on track to come back to downtown Montgomery.

"We're going to make it happen," said Montgomery mayor Bobby Bright.

Plans call for turning the alleyway into a New Orleans style atmosphere, a place where you'll see lanterns, trees, restaurants and shops. Right now it's only a reflection of the past but today the mayor says they are just a month or so away from construction.

"You'll have people coming from the new hotel through the building, up the alleyway picking and choosing what they want to eat," Bright said.

For now city leaders are waiting on all the property owners to sign over part of their alleyway property to the city since the pathway will become a public street. WSFA 12 News has learned the owners have all agreed in principle.

"It's been a major ordeal. We have 10 or 11 owners involved," said Bright.

The new and much improved alleyway will cost around $1.3 million, funded by the city and Montgomery County.

City officials hope they get it done before the new hotel and convention opens early next year. Currently under construction, the hotel is across the street on Commerce Street.

I noticed a construction dumpster when I drove by that direction Sunday and wonder what was going on.

Good to hear that the Grocer's Alley project is taking off, it'll really do good things for downtown. Have to admit, things are on the rise for the capital city as long as we have good ppl working on the city's behalf.

Like I said, I helped Mr. Simmons with some recommendations and the like and based on what I've seen about his downtown loft developments and the fact that he still has quality connections from Atlanta, I have a lot of confidence in him. He ran for mayor the last time around and managed a little over 32% so it wouldn't be crazy to think he couldn't get into the low to mid 40s this time around.

It's like I was telling Mr. Simmons, what's good for Montgomery in turn is good for Huntsville, Birmingham, and Mobile.

That's good neilson. Hey, we know you don't want to admit it, but you love Montgomery. You're obsessed with it.
You trash it on one site, and kiss it's butt on another.

Subliminal messages don't work well on this site...the people are too intelligent.

But if you want to love it, just do it, that's on you. It won't hurt Huntsville for you to do so...

I'm not trashing it on the other site. Frankly I think there are those on both sides that behave incredibly childish toward the opposing side's views instead of having a dialog. It's either "I stay with those that have the same view as I" or "I stay with those that have the same view as I". We're grown adults and we should be able to be better then that. That's why I come to both sites and why from time to time I catch heat from members on both sites. Frankly I'd rather have ppl question me and engage in discussion from all sides then simply find someplace that has "groupthink" for what I think.

That being said, I'm curious to your opinions of Scott Simmons and his downtown projects. He's not Folmar, not by a longshot(so you can put down your flametorches and pitchforks).

Very good. If you want to upgrade your comments to intellegent discussions about positive or negative development, we're all for that and welcome your input.

As for Simmons, I don't know much about him except that he's known as being a slumlord. He did fix up some rundown apartments into lofts in Cottage Hill a few years ago, and made them into a real asset for the area. Hopefully they are still in good condition.

Positive discussion is the only thing that seems to lead to results, I've come to realize. You can only criticize for so long before you decide to engage and do what you can to improve the quality of the city. At the end of the day, that's what we all want and I am really interested in Grocers Alley and the impact that it'll have.

Done right, it'll even stand as a model for the rest of us in the state to look to.

Everybody chill... Let's focus on the physical development of the city...

Speaking of which Leslie's show this morning had the owner of Noble's restaurant on this morning... Don Markwell had erroneously reported that Noble's was closing. The owner came on to refute that. He along with the owner of Lunde's and Leslie announced they have formed a downtown restaurant association. I hope to find more info so we can support these guys...

I think this will work.

I've got some pics of the Alley, but my server went down, and I'm trying to get them back.

Had an interesting lunch today. Went downtown with the intention of taking some construction update pics. Parked across from the Hotel/Civic Center, and took a couple of pics, then noticed that the building next to the future Children's museum was open and there were people cleaning it out. Stuck my head in to ask if I could take a couple of pics, and proceeded to get a 4th floor to basement tour

The building is owned by the main lawyer in one of Montgomery's largest firms, and his/their head of maintenance had been tasked with cleaning it out. Beautiful building, with lots of potential, and it backs up to the alley.

I'll have pics up later.
