-4C in Moncton at 8 AM and sunny, warming quickly today and achieving a high temperature this afternoon of +7C.

With the sunshine and lengthening days, it definitely feels like spring.

Good sugaring weather.

Environment Canada predicts a high of 16C for Ottawa today, Weather network shows 14C. Either way, this will be the all time warmest February temp on record for Ottawa. The long range (except for Thursday) looks well well above normal for the first week or two of March. Is this the end of winter?

I've never waded the Humber or Rouge rivers, but wouldn't mind trying, even if it gets a bit deeper in the Humber by High Park.

The weather today was warm, 8C and partly cloudy, mostly sunny.
Do you ever go during the salmon spawn from late September to early November? Always a spectacular sight, even if you’re not fishing. Well, maybe not the part of seeing the all salmon carcasses. But cool when they are splashing around. And perhaps you see the occasional rainbow or brown trout or smallmouth bass. And if you go in April, surely you’ve seen schools of white suckers and then carp here and there in May.

My favourite rivers and their tribs to fish or explore are Grindstone, Sixteen Mile, Credit, Etobicoke and the Rouge.

My weirdest find was a small pig carcass at Erindale Park in the Credit. Don’t know if that was part of a religious thing but the coconuts I would find are. And then last October I found that kids shoulder bag with lego and a 10” tablet on Sixteen Mile. I also found a duckling on the Rouge. Also scooped up perfectly functioning fishing rods and reels when on the lake, along with a football and soccer ball that I kept.

The Rouge and its tribs are fascinating, particularly in North Scarbs, Markham and Pickering. There are several branches and it’s hard to choose where to start. Just north of the zoo is a good start. Some very nice scenery there with valleys and what not but also, the roads around it are fun with all the twists and ups and down. And so traversable as much of it is shallow, but has deep enough pockets to hold fish.

TWN is only calling for one sub zero high temperature in Moncton over the next two weeks.

Otherwise, high temperatures will range from +4 to +12. That's early-mid April weather!!!

Spooky.............

I only had my snowblower out twice this winter. If you know Moncton, then you know how bloody atypical this is.

Already 14C here this morning at 9 am, going up to 19C later today, maybe we will hit 20C. Possible severe storms and even tornados, according to Detroit weather forecasters.

Light flurries and 1 degree at 11am. Flurries wont last long, might even clear up this afternoon.

Major warmup on the way for tomorrow and Thursday though, with an expected high of 10 tomorrow.

It's very spring-like today. We just had thundershowers and now it's sunny and 14. The air smells so good I just opened every window in the house.

Also spotted two robins in the backyard.

Snowbanks are taking a beating today in Gatineau.

13 on Wednesday down to -15? Watch all the water pipes explode.

The Acadian forest is a transition zone and there are reports about how the tree species are shifting. Around central NS, some trees are dying off (spruce) while others are becoming more abundant (oak and white pine). I wonder if the transition would make some areas less fire-prone and if it should be helped along by planting trees adjusted to relatively warmer conditions. I'd guess that the forest fire zones themselves quickly shift the tree type as well, with mass die-offs of old trees and whatever's most suited to the current climate outcompeting the others in the regrowth phase. Of course, if you happen to live around these areas that process is not fun.

Those Windsor temps are crazy.

I was in Detroit on Saturday when it was like 3 degrees - a real shame I missed it by a few days haha.

12 degrees with some pretty strong thunderstorms rolling through here today.

It may be mild but like -5 and sunny would be preferable to this.
