Almost more than Metlife behind it. I know it's a pipe dream but I will never stop hoping for that building to be torn down and a megatall built in it's place. It's the perfect spot, the only better one would be right on top of Penn Station but that's not gonna happen. Oh and imagine the views down Park Avenue with a megatall, 1 Vandy, and 175 Park right beside each other. Especially with the reno of Park Avenue. (that's gonna take forever)
However there are easier locations to redevelop so this ones not in cards anytime soon unfortunately.

I agree, I would like to see an 1800ft skyscraper or megatall on the MetLife site, which would make both One Vandy and 175 Park the 3 giant musketeers. Otherwise like you said, around Penn Station would be another spot for it. I was wondering what a megatall would look like near the Port Authority Bus Terminal area.

I'd imagine how 175 Park will look like if it was a megatall instead

On the contrary, this the perfect locale for it. It was designed for this area.
New York City's "preeminent crown" has been obscured for a while now from most low angles. And this will not "belittle or diminish" the Chrysler.
Besides this is Midtown East which you'll remember recently had a rezoning, if this tower didn't go up in this location some other tower would. Some other tower which we can't be sure of the quality of (unlike this one which is amazing). And more towers are sure to come in the coming years. Some of them probably bigger than this one.

^ And besides that, getting beyond the fact that Grand Central is the best place for such a skyscraper, no one will shed a tear to see the current Grand Hyatt go down. Move this tower to another site, and here we go.

Unfortunately, glorious Chrysler is a little too short for the area now. I had visions that 20-30 floors could be added to make it more prominent again, but I know that will never happen.

Frankly the Chrysler was just barely holding on. That thin spire was while technically giving it more height didn't do a whole lot for skyline presence. And now taller, and much thicker buildings are coming along. It was just a matter of time.

I can see a scenario where the reflection and the interplay between Chrysler and the new tower is more impressive than Chrysler alone. People should lighten up about the effect on Chrysler. It will be fine.

This, I believe, is the idea.

I'd say the reasons why people would hate this new building is because of not only the design but also blocking the view of the Chrysler Building, and how it "overpowers" it.

Nobody's going to hate this building. (Ok some will, but they're the same sort of people who wouldn't like the Chrysler or anything tall anyway). It's all about the quality of design. People will welcome this addition to the city's legacy of skyscrapers, as one that fits right in with the likes of Chrysler.

I'll take an 1800' version of the never completed MetLife North.

The new towers in east midtown are hitting at the right time...

East Midtown is NYC’s most in-demand market as Grand Central proximity beckons

By Steve Cuozzo

Quote:
East Midtown is once again Manhattan’s most in-demand office market.

Deals are still being done in the Hudson Yards area, Times Square, Midtown South and at the World Trade Center, but brokers say the momentum has shifted to the East 40s and 50s, which not long ago seemed to have lost their luster.

“Companies with resources are drawn to the blocks around Grand Central Terminal,” one insider said. “They like the energy that came from One Vanderbilt and the recent East Midtown rezoning. They like that the LIRR will soon be coming into the terminal. And they like the reinvestment that’s making old towers new.”
Quote:
A major lease is said to be in the works for Macquarie Group at Brookfield’s 660 Fifth Avenue, the redesigned tower stripped of its former 666 “satanic” address. Other deals are also poised to happen at the unrecognizably transformed tower.

Meanwhile, sources said that Ken Griffin’s Citadel, which is on a Big Apple hiring spree, is in advanced talks with Olayan America’s 550 Madison Ave., the repositioned former Sony tower where Chubb Group recently signed on as anchor tenant. Citadel is already the largest tenant at L&L Holding Co.’s nearby 425 Park Ave.

Separately, an unidentified tenant is believed to be taking a high-floor space at SL Green’s One Vanderbilt for close to $300 per square foot.

Does anyone have a PDF link or file to the latest presentation of the project? I'd love to see the updated renderings and information from that LPC/ULURP presentation in December 2021.

Thanks!
