MAYOR CANTRELL ISSUES STATEMENT ON CITY’S $22 MILLION INVESTMENT IN SEWERAGE AND WATER BOARD INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS
NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell today signed a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA) with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) to invest $22 million in bond funding to purchase two additional Static Frequency Changers, along with auxiliary power equipment.

“Today, I signed a CEA to fund two additional frequency changers for the SWBNO to invest in our infrastructure and keep this city safe for future hurricane seasons to come,” said Mayor Cantrell. “This is action and made possible with City Bond dollars approved by residents in 2019. With the sale of these bonds and because of our good credit score, this funding will go a long way as an investment right back into the SWBNO. Progress will continue to be made, and we will continue to prioritize improving our aging infrastructure.”

This equipment will be used at the Board’s Carrollton Water Plant facility in connection with any existing and proposed power generation equipment, as well as the future electrical substation.

Team Landis is kicking off an exciting new project focused on improving homeownership and financial sustainability.
In partnership with Green Coast Enterprises and Chase Marshall Architects, we're working to redevelop the existing commercial building at 4528 Freret Street into the future home of the New Orleans Homeownership Center - a 14,000 square feet of office and retail space (about half of which is already leased), and new studio, one- and two-bedroom condominiums as part of phase 2.
We're proud to be a part of this new development, which will help to ensure more New Orleanians are able to stay and work here in the city they love. Stay tuned for updates!

CITY TO BEGIN SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS TO GENTILLY BOULEVARD, GRAND ROUTE ST. JOHN STREET
City to Begin Safety Improvements to Gentilly Boulevard, Grand Route St. John Street
NEW ORLEANS – Starting this week weather permitting, City of New Orleans Department of Public Works contractor Pavement Markings will begin safety improvements at the intersection of Grand Route St. John Street and North White Street as well as a phased series of updates to the bicycle and pedestrian facilities along Gentilly Boulevard – from Grand Route St. John Street to St. Bernard Avenue. The improvements are expected to take approximately one week to complete.

To reduce speeding and improve sight distances at the intersection, the contractor will add striping at Grand Route St. John and North White streets tomorrow, April 6. The work entails narrowing the travel-lane approaches using a combination of striping and flex posts and marking "No Parking" zones.

The initial phase of the Gentilly Boulevard work will include adding bike lane enhancements, refreshed striping, new green markings, and new flex posts between Onzaga Street and St. Bernard Avenue. Parking or traffic disruptions are not anticipated during this initial phase. Notifications will be provided if disruptions occur.

The second phase of work on Gentilly Boulevard will begin once the 2022 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival concludes. This phase is expected to take two to three weeks to complete. The second phase work includes:

Conversion of bike lanes to parking-protected bike lanes
Lake bound from Laharpe to Onzaga streets
River bound from St. Bernard Avenue to Trafalgar Street
River bound from Derby to Grand Route St John streets
High-visibility crosswalks
Installation of a lane merge (to reduce from two travel lanes to one) river-bound between Maurepas and Grand Route St. John streets.

There really is only like one great empty parcel left now.

4730 Freret is last empty parcel and it just sold in November 2021.. so probably not empty for long.

It is exciting to see all the new development and reimaging in the city. One unfortunate constant that I notice is the poor condition of the city/state maintained rights of way adjacent. Thoughts?

Do you know what they're doing at the Claiborne Ave strip mall that has Save A Center, (just now closed) Dollar tree, Oak Tree Health, Starbucks? They're tearing up the parking lot.

Also speaking of Claiborne Ave, the PJs Coffee is cute and looks good. Good to see a plot on Claiborne cleaned up.

New Orleans Drive Shack, stalled for years, may be kaput as owners weigh walking away

https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...c76e9208d.html

The company behind New Orleans' unfinished Drive Shack golf-entertainment complex at the site of the former Times-Picayune building is now considering walking away from the flailing project, leaving potentially millions of dollars in unpaid construction bills in limbo along with a crumbling eyesore along Interstate 10.

Illegally dumped tires and graffiti now cover parts of the construction site on Howard Avenue that was once touted by city and state officials as bringing 350 permanent jobs to the area.

Concrete walls are starting to crumble amid the steel beams that mark the spot where the driving range would have stood. Weeds have grown to shoulder height on a part of the property that appears to be turning into a small marsh.

The $29 million project has been in the works for more than four years. It was billed as a way to revitalize an underdeveloped area of the city and was partly funded by tax subsidies. But it has been beset by difficulties from the outset, most recently the financial woes of its Dallas-based corporate parent during the coronavirus pandemic...

Like we needed to wait two years to know how this story ended. Tog Golf would probably go there now if drive shack completely folds. .. but otherwise what another pathetic addition from Joe Jaeger and company.

Yeah not a surprise unfortunately. Top Golf always would have been preferred.

I was always confused about this site anyway, really not that much room for golf driving range? Would be nice to see the riverfront topgolf go forward

Im pretty sure the riverfront site is off the table now with the master development as the size of it doesnt seem to fit with the overall masterplan anymore, but I suppose they could change it up.. they certainly are a big draw. . this site could still work for topgolf... dont forget top golf was the original tenant on this site but was outbid by the basically defunct driveshack later on. this is an example of why many times you often take less money for the more stable tenant... this is what you end up with.
