It would have been a nice day, if not for the wind. So hanging by the lake was out of the question. Ended up at Bronte Creek Provincial Park. Wind was annoying there too on the open fields. Maple syrup in full swing though. Many, many trees tapped and sap dripping into the buckets.
The Maple Syrup Festival starts next weekend. I think the last time I went to one of those I was in grade 3.
Our long term forecast is pretty insane right now.
TWN has us at: 7/15/15/-2/8/12/11/14/14 for the next week and a bit. And lots of sun. Looks like after that we will be closer to seasonal, but seasonal by March is above freezing.
Today was okay, a high of 5 with increasing cloudiness. Quite windy.
After a weird cycle of rain/freeze conditions (that turned out to be mostly uneventful, thankfully), it looks like we're headed into a couple of weeks of above normal temperatures, which will (also, thankfully) take a bite out of the snow piles that exist everywhere around Halifax these days.
EC is predicting mostly highs and lows above zero this week, with a high up to +10 on Wednesday, coinciding with some rain through Thursday. A minor rollercoaster run down to -12 on Thursday night with some snow, but then back up to +7 for Sat and Sun.
TWN is similar, with a high of +10 on Wed, +8 on Thurs (-9 Thurs night) and back up to 8 and 10 on Sat/Sun. Their long term (which I usually take with a grain of salt) for the following week (March 5 -11) is predicting daytime highs in the +5 to +10°C range. Normals for this time of year are +1 high, -8 low.
We'll see how it goes. It may seem odd, but I hope the snow doesn't melt away too quickly, as it would be nice to retain some moisture in our forests this spring, so we can avoid the tinder-dry situation that lead to those horrific wildfires that we had last May.
Went from no snow to about 20-25 cm in my yard last night. Storm hit about 3pm. Snow Fall warning has just ended. South Edmonton has less than half what the north side got.
Shoveled my walks 3 times. twice last night It was coming down so hard by the time I had the driveway done the sidewalks had 2 cm on them again. Drive was ok in. Just idiot drivers as usual.
But we are heading to -20 tonight. But up and down all week.

It's already 8 degrees at 11 am while the forecast was high of 7 later this afternoon. We've been beating the forecast just about every day lately, probably due to the abundance of sunshine and the lack of ice and freezing, which would normally be at their maximum around mid-February.

The City, not expecting it, apparently decided not to plow much of it. Metrobus even pulled service from Water Street, our main drag, due to road conditions.

Went to pick up the kid from daycare but took the scenic route along the creek. Couldn't help but to go do some exploring. If anyone wants an Ireland hat and a couple of golf balls, help yourself. I wonder if someone was chipping from their backyard because these balls were way closer to the trail at the top of the small valley than the creek. It would be interesting to play with the ball the animal chewed up.
Odd that the section by the foot bridge was murky but about 50m up it was perfectly clear, as it should be considering we haven't been getting precip. It was like Townguy's pic at the Rouge in Scarboro. Was murky for some reason.
And note to self, next time I go bush whacking, make sure I don't have jogging pants on. It was impromptu as I wasn't planning on going down there but curiosity got the better of me. Going to be picking those out for the next couple of weeks.
And speaking of useful garbage, someone on the next street over put out three power wheels at the curb. He happened to be outside at the time and he said this Toyota Tundra and Bentley Continental just need batteries. I already bought the drill battery adapater kit for my kids' existing power wheels so going to try with these. But they've been clearly sitting out for a while judging by the water inside and spider webs and whatever. In Nov. someone in Mississauga was giving away one of these on Facebook that just needed a battery according to her. Sat for a month before someone finally picked it up. I would have gotten it if it would fit in my SUV but wasn't about to take out both kids cars seats to make it work. The same people also put out a double stroller last May that we took and two weeks ago they put out a mini hockey that my kids now use to kick soccer balls in to.
I find a lot of things when I wade the river fishing. Even when boating too. Golf balls is number one and fishing lures is number two. I wanna know what I would find if I were to explore the Don and Humber Rivers or whatever creeks deep in Toronto in sketchy areas. Maybe some needles and crack pipes. And used condoms of course.

Thanks for posting this! I also sometimes go wading in creeks and rivers, but for a hobby called geocaching. I've also found just those same things you just mentioned, and usually not much else, other than maybe plastic bits from fishing equipment say, on the Credit River or something. I've never waded the Humber or Rouge rivers, but wouldn't mind trying, even if it gets a bit deeper in the Humber by High Park.
The weather today was warm, 8C and partly cloudy, mostly sunny.
I wasn't out and about today but it was easy to see that it was another blast of a day.
Sunny, dry and not so windy away from the water but big waves and surf at the beaches.
I noticed on the English Bay Live Cam that a sailboat (the "Blarney") had washed ashore at Sunset Beach.
