HAHA! Now that was funny!

How ignorant of him. What is he smoking on...? He lacks knowledge of the coastal region of his own state...that's sad.

Dothan offficlas said that VW has ruled out a Northern Mobile ,Blue Grass, and Black Belt site. The only two remaining are The Huntsville area and Tennessee.

Whats weird to me is that the Press Register nor any of the news station in Mobile have mentioned anything about it. Up here in Huntsville it has been big talk around here.So maybe Coastal Bama aren`t intrested in the Volks Wagon Plant May be ?

Cypress Point Marina and Cottages Coming to Baldwin Hwy 225
The monster condo project has been replaced by this sign on the property. On their web site the history of the project quotes Bradley Byrne as saying ALDOT was completely irresponsible not to 4 lane Hwy 225. But ALDOT listened to the community which did not want a 4 lane truck route destroying Spanish Fort and the Historic Blakeley State Park Hwy 225 Corridor. Hwy 225 is scenic because it is not a 4 lane. There are no plans to make it a 4 lane says ALDOT and locals say thank you.

No need to ruin 225 wiith a four-lane. It is a naturally beautiful area that doesnt need everyone and their mom traveling on it.

Has an article on the Civic Center... more of the same...

Same with the Lagniappe Online (for those unable to grab an issue on the streets):

The new lagniappe has a good article on Serda Coffee downtown. It sounds like they have hit the mark with their coffee house/smoothie shop/deli/bar combo.
Also in the PR their was a nice article about Cathedral Square Gallery moving to a bigger nicer space not on Catherdral Square. THey will keep the name and move up out Dauphin to a location across from Wintzells.

I hope this movie helps to strretch out the current "good/safe/inhabited" part of downtowns retail/restaraunt/bar scene. There is pretty good density on lower Dauphin, Royal, and around Bienville/Cathedral squares. Hopefully buisnesses can now stretch a little further away from that core and succeed.

Probably just not all that ready to shout out about losing a plant that was never really known about by average folks anyway (and probably never as serious a chance). But who knows, maybe the Dothan guy doesn't know everything. The weird thing is I did see a article/thread about this on the WKRG site that night (it was shown on a list as "most popular topic" on their site during the tv newscast so I ran to the computer to look at it). Yet it wasn't mentioned on the actual tv news show by the anchors. Now I can't find it on their site. Maybe they removed it? Its odd.

Yeah ! exactly Mobilians have been wanting an automotive plant for the longest becasue all of the other metro do. Thyssenkrupt was huge down there and of corse the Northrup Grumman win as well. This VW plant is un known I asked my uncle about it 2 days ago and was like " what Volswagon plant" weird right ?

Maybe the growth of the city will finally create the highway many in the area have been looking for.

Quote:
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Lt. Gov. Jim Folsom Jr. wants to create
a commission to study how to finance and build a freeway from the
Florence area to the Mobile area.

Folsom said Thursday people have been discussing the need for a
freeway down the west side of the state since he was a child and
it's time to do something. Folsom is proposing a commission
appointed by the governor, lieutenant governor and speaker of the
House. It would explore both public and private financing and will
report to the Legislature next February.

The Democratic lieutenant governor announced his proposed
commission at a news conference with 17 Democratic and Republican
legislators. It will be up to the Legislature to vote to create the
commission.

Republican Sen. Rusty Glover of Semmes said the proposed highway
would provide Alabama's coast with better access to the Midwest.
