That isn't to say things don't pick up during certain events or times (for example, Crescent obviously draws people at night), but overall I'd agree with the other people who feel that this area, currently, lacks the same activity as other parts of Midtown.

Just my observations / experiences.
I think the main reason is that the 10th St./Peachtree St. intersection is wide and big. The general flare of a street grid gets lost immediately lost once you go north of 10th on Peachtree.

The Masquerade has found a new location on Fairmont Road just north of Huff Road in the Westside.

SAP filed for townhomes at 125 Moreland SE.

Demolition permit filed for warehouses at 465 Memorial. Possible Atlantic Realty Partners development.

Land disturbance permit filed for new homes in West Midtown (Blandtown) near proposed new site for the Masquerade.

The 60 11th St development is officially complete and the first move-ins should start any day now. I wonder what kind of retail we will see and how long it will take to get leased. I feel like Daniel Corp has not been very successful in leasing great tenants so far in the 12th & Midtown development.

I agree. Maybe they're just being crazy selective?? I don't know, but for the Loews / 1075 Peachtree buildings to be completely empty where ROC was is quite unbelievable (not to mention the entire Juniper side of the building).

Then you look across the street and it looks terrible where CB2 was. I thought this was supposed to be the epicenter of activity...why can't they get some good retail in those spaces?

Why can't they put a 7eleven, zaxbys , Chick-fil-a, and other general stores there. I can guarantee that the QT will be a smashing success. 7eleven will be in a hurry to sign a lease.

Last I heard, they were trying to break the leasing space into smaller units. Roc and CB2 are too big of a space for the stores I think would done well. I'm not sure clothing stores will ever do well at this location. I could be wrong. Atlanta has been sold short, and have proven over and over again to do what everyone else said can't be done in a sprawling city.

State awards MARTA $30 million to launch new AV system .

Announcements about upcoming rides at MARTA stations are about to drastically improve with a new audio-visual information system the transit agency is planning to install with $30 million in state cash. And the days of watching color bars and error messages on screens that should be telling you when the next train will arrive should soon be over. The new AV system planned for MARTA's 38 rail stations will include multilingual signs, quicker communications, and displays of bus schedules and arrival times for MARTA and other connecting transit agencies.

Based on an admittedly informal survey, I'm just about positive clothing stores could do very well in Midtown. The issue is that the only clothing stores ever leasing space are high-end boutiques. Throw in a Banana Repbulic, J Crew, Express, etc. and I am positive they'll survive and thrive. There's no where right now in Midtown to buy day-to-day clothes.

...unless you count Atlantic Station? But you're right, there is nothing much for the average person along Peachtree and the places that have come and gone have, for the most part, been upscale boutiques selling $500 jeans (Raw Denim at 12th and Midtown) and such. No matter how much some people hate chains, I think a few mixed in (like the ones you mentioned) would do well and help bring along more retail to Peachtree and the other streets of Midtown.

+1

If they threw a Gap, UNIQLO, H&M, BR, something like that, I really bet they'd do perfectly fine. The closest normal place to buy clothes is Atlantic Station.

Exactly.. A Zara store would be perfect as well.. Anyways within 2-4 years there will be a lot of new retail space in Midtown, more than 400,000 Sq Ft, and I think that is a conservative estimate. Particularly around the 14th st Peachtree intersection. And that is not counting what future proposals will be coming along. I also think it is very important that a Department store or two be developed, would really help the area have more foot traffic and be more vibrant.

I hope many of these retailers being discussed have noticed the residential building boom in Midtown. Maybe that's what they have been waiting for?

Also, if Apple, and what seems to be a ton of other retailers, comes to Colony Square, I'm hoping that could really be the jump start to the core of Midtown taking off.

In order for these types of retailers to survive, you've got to give people, and not just those living in area condo/apartment towers and surrounding neighborhoods, a reason to come into the heart of Midtown, park and spend a significant amount of time there. One or two retailers won't do the trick, but if many hit at the same time, it'll become a destination.

Oh, and I agree that BR, J Crew, Express, Kiehls and other similar stores would be perfect for the area, but NOT fast food joints and 7-11's.

"Project Spinoza" A corporate HQ is planned to anchor Three Alliance, article implies it is Global Payments, Inc.

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news/2016/06/23/project-spinoza-plans-18-million-150-job.html

Also Taco Bell is well underway at University House, and the 2nd cookie place next to LA Fitness Spring Street has started construction...

Dunno why it always feels like when some new restaurant option is successful in Atlanta it breeds a slew of copycats... Is there really enough demand for cookies that two cookie shops can survive a block from each other.
