The clocks has three parts. The two actual clocks which will go to Whistler and BC place. The third part is the wood part that has the first nation carving that will go to Jack Poole Plaza. Anyway I got this information from the security guard.

Is anyone else concerned that this plaza is getting cluttered up with Stuff?

When I was there the week the new convention centre opened, I was quite impressed by how large the space was & it was only broken up by the retail building on the west edge.

In just over a year we've added the LowResOrca, the Olympic Memorial Cauldron, the wooden section of the Olympic Memorial Countdown Clock and the elevator tower for the Harbour Flight Centre.

I'm expecting that another section of the plaza will be behind wrought-iron railings so it becomes the outdoor patio of the new restaurant opening there.

Public art!? Patios!? Places to sit?! Disgusting. What I want is an acre or two of concrete.

haha its not too bad - they only use the plaza once a year for canada day gatherings may as well make it more inviting

Events, both public and private, could use it.

And whose to say we can't come up with more cultural events for the plaza?

^ See, to me, that picture and many other European squares look barren because they are missing the color green. Asian cities seem to have a better track record in incorporating trees into public places. Europe is not necessarily the standard to aim for when it comes to this.

will become a covered structure - like on the plaza side I would assume

they are adding planters and benches like they have along the plaza that would provide some shelter from the rain at least

I think the area around West Convention Centre will get even more "cluttered" when all the shops open. Bellaggio on the east side has submitted a revised application to the city to have a patio area with a capacity of 85 seats (outdoor). Cactus Club Cafe will also has outdoor patio area.

With the new Seaplane terminal now clearly progressing, any idea why we haven't seen movement on the Harbour Green Park restaurant. They have everything in place to proceed and now would seem like the perfect time to do so. The Parks board could definitely use the money.

Apparently the Cauldron will be re-lit again on Oct 22 at 7:30PM. To remember Jack Poole.

I was at the Jack Poole Plaza dedication ceremony tonight.
Some pictures I took:

Plaque in honour of Jack Poole unveiled by Premier Gordon Campbell, PavCo chair David Podmore and Poole's widow, Darlene Poole. Cauldron relit. Thurlow Plaza is officially renamed to Jack Poole Plaza.


Our "beloved" Premier at the ceremony.


Quite a crowd.


I just don't seem to get tired of taking picture of the cauldron. Too bad my camera's battery eventually ran out.


The cauldron will remain burning until Saturday night so more people can have a chance to visit and take photos.
