YAM + Carl Joe Williams Gentilly Resilience District Sculptures
Join the Arts Council, City of New Orleans, Water Leaders Institute, Resilient NOLA, New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA), Levees.org, and The NET: Gentilly on Sunday, November 7, from 3:30 – 5:30 pm, for the unveiling of Unity and Harmony, two new sculptures located at the London Avenue Canal Levee Breach Site (5000 Warrington Dr.) and the NORA Rain Garden (corner of Filmore Ave. and Wildair Dr.).
The artwork was created by students from the Arts Council's YAM program at The NET: Gentilly, under the mentorship of local artist Carl Joe Williams, for the City of New Orleans Gentilly Resilience District. We'll meet at the levee breach site first and walk over to the rain garden to see the artwork.
YAM is the Arts Council’s arts education and workforce development program that beautifies neighborhoods and connects youth to their communities through the research, design, and installation of public art. The $141 million HUD-funded Gentilly Resilience District (GRD) is a combination of efforts across the Gentilly neighborhood that are designed to reduce flood risk, slow land subsidence, improve energy reliability, and encourage neighborhood revitalization.
