Amazing how cleaning and painting the Superdome roof makes a huge difference!

Glad to see Barrow's moving onto Poydras.

Do we know when all the Chick Fil A constructions will start?
I was also having a conversation with a friend the other day that more chains would make downtown/CBD such as Chipotle and Panera Bread.

Yes it was such a shame that roof was ever allowed to get that bad to begin with. It really is such an eyesore on the skyline when not maintained properly. the chik fil a is applying for a sign waiver for the size of their sign on poydras and it says this in NPP letter.

There are many steps and approvals involved in this process, including consideration by the City Planning Commission and the City Council. Construction will begin for this store in early 2022 and will last approximately 3-4 months.

When they started painting the Superdome roof, they repainted over the Mercedes-Benz with a Band-Aid look. Then they painted the Caesars Superdome wording on the Band-Aid on the Champions Square side. Then they started pressure washing & painting the entire roof without adding the Caesars Superdome wording on the other side. Then the fire. They’re still painting the roof without the wording. Why would they add Caesars Superdome on the Band-Aid? The entire roof should be painted white before the wording is added. That’s common sense. That’s how they painted the Mercedes-Benz on the roof. Now look at it. The Champions Square side looks like a large Band-Aid with Caesars Superdome added. It looks like the paint is NOT the same, or they didn’t paint the Band-Aid white enough. You can definitely see this on WDSU’s weather cam of the dome. It looks like a large Band-Aid. I hope they’re going to fix this. Right now, it looks bad.

Looks like they got it all the same color almost just a bit where the caesars logos will go but its looking so much better already and will look whiter than has in years.

I would think Caesars wouldn’t accept their name on a Band-Aid on one side of the roof. It looks cheap & tacky. I would demand it be repainted. The side coming in from Metairie will look the way it should because the Caesars Superdome wording will be painted AFTER the roof is completely repainted.

Yeah, that’s great! As of Saturday afternoon, I still see nothing but a Band-Aid on the Champions Square side. I sure hope they fix this.

I think it would be impossible to draw up an uglier façade than that proposed for Freret Housing.

CITY ANNOUNCES CREATION OF DEVELOPMENT TEAM TO ADVANCE KIERNANWEST DISTRIBUTION CENTERS
NEW ORLEANS — Today, the City of New Orleans announced the establishment of a development team to support the creation of a distribution and logistics center in New Orleans East. The team will be managed by the City’s Office of Business and External Services (OBES) and developer KiernanWest and S.H.I.E.L.D. 1 of Colorado.

"I am excited to support this critical and proactive partnership with the City of New Orleans that will bring jobs and commercial dollars to the East,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell." "It is a win-win for the entire city, business community, and more importantly it displays our commitment in investing in New Orleans East and to growing our economy. We are with them every step of the way and will work together to make sure that this initiative is a success.”

KiernanWest is a real estate development company based in Colorado, that specializes in transportation logistics centers. S.H.I.E.L.D 1 is a non-profit organization that provides services in economically distressed communities in the form of grants from National Football League (NFL) Player programs, endowments to Historically Black Colleges and Universities for scholarships and internships, health, professional and financial assistance to former NFL players, veterans and critical medical first responders, volunteerism and community service, apprenticeship programs and in leadership development. This organization is supported by Drew Brees, Demario Davis and Josh Norman. The KiernanWest/ S.H.I.E.L.D 1 partnership was a top contender in the Request For Proposals process for the redevelopment of Six Flags.

The KiernanWest/S.H.I.E.L.D 1 team has identified an alternative location for their highly impactful project, and the property acquisition process has begun. The initial phase of the project will include a distribution and logistics center that will create a significant number of local jobs and living wage opportunities. The City of New Orleans team will support the project in every stage of development, from land use and entitlement, to financing and development, to ongoing operations—including workforce development and stakeholder engagement.

KiernanWest and S.H.I.E.L.D. 1 remain committed to their vision of providing quality job creation, workforce development, sustainable food security, science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) education programs and training, and overall quality of life initiatives for the community in New Orleans East, the city and the region.

On the surface its good thing because basically both proposals are moving forward and on different tracts of land. Likelihood of at least one succeeding seems high, and would be great it both succeed. Certainly, there is the land for both.

Gov. Edwards and DOTD announce apparent low bidder for second phase of LA 1 corridor project
Wednesday, October 06, 2021 at 3:10:27 PM
Lafourche Parish- Today, Governor John Bel Edwards and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that the second phase of the LA 1 corridor project was let today, October 6. James Construction Group, LLC. presented the apparent low construction bid of $463.6 million.

“I am excited to see this day come that we can begin another major project that has been on the books for years but has lacked funding,” said Gov. John Bel Edwards. “The completion of this project will strengthen the nation’s economic security by providing stability to the oil and gas industry that relies on the services provided along the Gulf Coast of Louisiana. This is a sign of progress and a commitment to recovery of this region.”

Phase II consists of the construction of an 8.3 mile two-lane elevated structure on LA 1 in Lafourche Parish that will connect the communities of Golden Meadow and Leeville. The design of this structure will allow it to be built using “top-down” construction methods for the protection of sensitive wetland and marshes in the surrounding areas. Other elements of this project include road work, highway lighting, ITS items and the construction of a levee T-wall. Preliminary construction could start early in 2022 with full construction beginning in the summer of 2022.

“This project would not have been possible without the nationally successful INFRA Grant DOTD was awarded, the BP Settlement funding, and the private industry contributions,” said DOTD Secretary Shawn D. Wilson, Ph.D. “Collaboration is a winning formula for delivering critical projects like this. I applaud all of the staff who worked to deliver this mega project for the state with innovation and tenacity. The existing road is vulnerable and faces tremendous uncertainty because of water intrusion and subsidence. This project will strengthen the cultural tourism offered in south Louisiana while providing a solution to a highway that could be argued as one of the most important highways in the nation. We are grateful for the Greater Lafourche Port Commission, Lafourche Parish Government and LA 1 Coalition for their efforts to move this project forward.”

This is part of a multi-phase project to provide an 18-mile elevated highway on a new location between Golden Meadow and Port Fourchon. Phase I consisted of a nine-mile elevated highway along LA 1, as well as a high-rise bridge over Bayou Lafourche. This was completed June 2012.

In addition to Capital Outlay, General Obligation Bonds, as well as local and private industry support, DOTD is able to access $150 million from HB 578/ Act 443 (2019) and $135 million from the Infrastructure For Rebuilding America (INFRA) Grant that was awarded to the state last year.

Construction projects are prioritized by road/bridge condition, urgency of improvements, type/volume of traffic, crash records, unforeseeable emergencies that caused damage, and several other factors.
