Great! Yup I see the distinction now. Saw the for sale signs and graffiti and thought the worst!

Breeze Airways resumes flights, commits $1M to rebuilding
By: CityBusiness staff reports September 10, 2021

https://neworleanscitybusiness.com/b...to-rebuilding/

Breeze Airways, the startup airline that made New Orleans its operations hub this year, has resumed nonstop flights from Louis Armstrong International Airport following Hurricane Ida.

Launched by JetBlue founder and CEO David Neeleman, Breeze began operations in New Orleans this summer with nine nonstop routes across the South and Midwest.

The Salt Lake City, Utah-based airline said Friday it is donating travel worth up to $1 million – or around 10,000 roundtrip tickets – to first responders, Louisiana residents and others who can help with rebuilding efforts.

Applicants must create a guest account at www.flybreeze.com for the person seeking to travel and fill out an application, using the email address associated with the guest account. Applicants should list the reason for travel and how their visit will help rebuild homes, revitalize the city or provide volunteer services to its residents. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first served basis and must be received by Sept. 22 Successful applicants will have certificates within two weeks, a news release said.

That new development on OC Haley looks awesome. I'm surprised the city is letting them tear down the double at 1827-29 Thalia though. Maybe the new building wraps around it, hard to tell.

This is exactly the development that stretch needs. Paired with the browns dairy re-development this should really push the OC Haley corridor forward and add much needed housing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the Brown's redevelopment. It does look great!

DDD/City Clashes

Looks like this has gotten even messier. TLDR: the mayor's chief of staff has been voted as the interim president and CEO of the Downtown Development District, but there are a lot of claims of it having been done illegally, and the whole process sounds like it was dramatic. I don't know much other than what's in this article, but it doesn't really seem worth the controversy for the mayor to have gotten this guy installed there. I'm sure we'll hear a lot more about this over the next several weeks/months though.

New Orleans is arguably the most unique metro area in the continental US, but its CBD is also following the national trend and although from a very low base, is growing at a very fast pace.

French Quarter surprised me as it seems to have a very well established residential population and I had no idea. I thought it was just an entertainment district. And it is, as the CBD, a White-majority area, while immediatelly north there's one census tract entirely formed by a project which is virtually all-Black.

Yes it is the block between Baronne and OC Haley, not the Browns Dairy site. In the third rendering you can see the carveout at one corner for the existing 3-story building at Thalia/OC Haley to remain. The existing building is in white so a little tricky to spot it.

Y'all are right, I think what threw me off is the Brown's sign at the corner of Thalia and OC Haley. I think this was their parking lot. Much more exciting to imagine two major developments happening there rather than one. Great to see.

This is such a weird thing to do ; especially since they will be hiring a new person in a few weeks. My guess is they did this to try and get that money paid to the city right away . I’m sure this won’t be the last word on this being done but I also think the drainage work should have been started by now. No reason to waste time

It’s part of that property yes. There’s more than one block for that former facility. One is this the other is that large single family and doubles project. There’s also a few other smaller things like a distillery and some short term rentals that make up the remaining parcels.

Nice to see that Jehovah's Witness building bite the dust on OC Haley too. I have no problem with the religion but their buildings are so ugly... all cookie-cutter too, we have an identical one in Chicago.
