Those were back in the good old days where CBS owned the station. And CBS took pride in making all of their stations really shine. Helicopter. Expensive, talented news anchors. And moving to the fancy studio at the base of the Wells Fargo Tower on Main Street.
They since sold to Cerberus Capital Management. And like a mythical hound from hell, they budget-cutted the heck out of KUTV. Helicopter was gone. A lot of technical staff roles eliminated. And slowly got the more expensive talent like Michelle King to retire.
While Sinclair Broadcasting (not the oil company) is a
slightly better owner than a hedge fund was, I still don't forsee KUTV ever getting its helicopter back. Phoenix used a single pooled helicopter for all its overhead coverage. And I don't think the Las Vegas market has any. And local TV news, while still important for the community, is not exactly a growth industry on the spreadsheet.
