I took a trip to the Pioneer Memorial this past Christmas. It has always been one of my favorite places in the city. I think I remember the waterfall running when I was a kid back in the 60s, perhaps into the early 70s. Unfortunately, the climate, political and otherwise, has not been good to this historic site. These are a few photos I'd like to share:
The pool which only fills with the rain.

This is an lapl image with the following info attached:
"Mrs. Henry T. Wright, left, and Miss Sarah W. Lyon, past presidents of the Daughters of 1812, are shown at the flagpole on historic Fort Moore, where the last annual Flag Day ceremony was celebrated today. They are holding clippings of The Evening Herald laid in the cornerstone in 1916, which are removed and will be put in the foundation at the new site of the flagpole on the hill. Photo dated June 14, 1941. "

I'm not sure, but I think I remember reading that Fourth of July parades used to end at the Fort Moore flagpole. I think it's too bad it is currently in such a state. I hope it can be saved.
