Logistically it makes sense the lobby entrance is to the north even if south might be more visually trafficked. With the improvements to Palm Park and development of Sabine Street alongside the Waller Creek plan, I expect the isolation of such a striking building (albeit with the 'bad' side facing traffic) to be nicely marginalized with the surrounding upgrades and infill. Hard to project that now without more comprehensive renderings. Remember this project is 3 years from being complete. I expect that entire area to look markedly different by that time.

What's not to love? (Love it when emoticons appropriately capture syntax btw)
Thanks for the correction of the street! I corrected it on my post.

The drawings are old and the finished building will look different than the rendering. I learned a long time ago to not judge a development until it is COMPLETLY finished. Sometimes the last little flourish of work pulls the whole thing together. What a statement the building will make for Austin, our downtown, and future conventions. I am hopeful that it will get built.

Has it been confirmed that they're building a helipad on the building?

10 projects that will change Austin's skyline

Austin is in the midst of a construction boom that will reshape the city over the next decade. The city of Austin's list of ongoing projects now spans more than five pages of development in the planning stages and under construction. We've gone through the list and are highlighting in this slideshow 10 of what we found as the most interesting projects. You can find an in-depth guide to the changes taking place around Republic Square in this week's print edition. Last year, Editor Colin Pope weighed in on 47 projects that will change downtown Austin, and many are now taking shape.

Regulars on SSP know more than a lot of journalists do about local projects.

It's a big shame. It was one of my favorite projects. The previous site owners moved the whole thing through the process, so whoever buys the lot already has everything set up should they decide to build it - but I doubt that'll happen.

The emerging projects document that the city puts out every quarter still has it, though, which is good news:

Does anyone know what project C70 "East Austin Hotel" is? The city lists it as 5 buildings each 3 stories.

Sounds like another old project that has stalled a bit.

The hole in the ground for the Corazon Apartments is pretty impressive. When completed it's really going to change the vibe of that area along 5th street which is currently still pretty industrial. These apartments will include 13,300 square feet of retail-restaurant space.

The crane base is on site so construction should start soon.

I think that's the original plan. There's also a file that says "final" that is only 397 feet with 29 floors. Supposedly they have the option of adding another floor plus another garage level.

I hope it ends up being 440 feet tall. I tried contacting my contact at Cousins, but he hasn't replied back about it. He was the one that got me the heights for Frost Bank Tower and Palisades West. Still no reply, though.

397 feet will barely make a dent in the skyline in that area. It'll be surrounded by taller buildings on two sides and only be about as tall as One American Center. The most impact it'll make on the skyline is when viewing it from the southwest between the W Hotel, Ashton and The Austonian.

See my post in the thread below for all the heights.
