Nah, it can't be 1968. The 427 didn't go north of the 401 even in 1968.

This is the date stamp in grayscale with the contrast pumped way up.

Yeah, I can see the six, but it doesn't match the rest of the font, and I think its just an illusion from the image. The number 8 at the end of the stamp is the only digit that is really clear. A date of 1998 would be too late as the 407 was finished, and 1978 or anything before it wouldn't make sense as the 407 hadn't even been designed by then. It may look like 1968, but that date doesn't make sense.

edit:

Including a photo of a date stamp with spalled concrete. This bridge was completed in 1983, but because of how the date stamp has aged, it looks as though it could date from 1988. Just posting for interests stake:

Duffey Lake along BC-99 (Sea to Sky Highway) between Pemberton and Lillooet.

Almost 3000 meters tall mountains along BC-99 (Sea to Sky Highway) just before Lillooet.

Fraser River valley along BC-12 between Lillooet and Lytton.

Moro photos in here.

Wow! Grew up in Vancouver and never made it past Pemberton on the Sea to sky. What a mistake.

Yeah, many make the same mistake as the scenery only gets better after Pemberton as the mountains around you grow taller and taller. It's a 570km loop drive from Vancouver (Vancouver-Whistler-Lillooet-Lytton-Hope-Vancouver) and you can do it in one day.

On my bucket list to do this one day. My parents have driven from Whistler to Princeton via Lillooet before, but I haven't done it yet.

Been up to Lillooet before, via Highway 12 and looping around to Cache Creek, but both ways came through Hope.

If you have the time the route from Van, Whistler, Pembeton through to Kamloops is quite a spectacular but slow drive, (Motor homes). Did this drive 2 years ago. Another great drive is highway 3 from Van to Fernie all the way into Alberta. Add the drive up Highway 22 in Alberta to Edmonton and you have a great week or 2 of spectacular scenery.

The 12km eastward extension of the Lakehead Expressway (TCH 11/17) between Lakeshore Drive and Birch Beach will open to traffic on Thursday morning at 11am. You can see it under construction on Google Maps.

Why only 2 express lanes? Looks like theres more than enough room for a third lane

where are the second set of express lanes? from that photo it looks like it goes like this:

collector-express-collector

it should go:

collector-express-express-collector

do they still have to build them? were they simply getting a single direction complete first, then they will be doing the other way? or am I missing something?

It's there, just slightly out of the shot. You can see the westbound collectors on the far left on the hill, all backed up with traffic. Just to the right of that is the transfer ramp from westbound collector to express which is not yet striped and still closed off. Then the 2 westbound express lanes. And then to the right the two eastbound express lanes and then the 3 eastbound collectors.

The oncoming traffic has both the collector and express lanes open. You can just see the collector lanes on the far left of the image.

That space has been left for a HOV lane, which won't open until other phases of the collector-express widening project in Mississauga is done. This is phase 1 and it's only about 2km long so it would be little silly to enter and exit a HOV lane for such a short distance.

Phase 2 won't start until the 'beyond 2016' timeframe so expect just 2 express lanes for about a decade until the HOV lanes open.

How long is phase 2 and how many more phases are there? How far is the collector/express system going to go eventually?
