The three floor space in a glass enclosure could have a spiral stairway similar to the design of Upper West Side !!

Besides, this building needs to attract a store of exceptional quality.

^ LOL, there will be parking, as well as mandatory bike racks on the lower levels.

The only similarity with the Apple store would be the glass cube on the Park Avenue side. All of the retail, from Park Ave to 57th will be connected through the lower level.

The vast majority of Manhattan towers have no parking.

In most cases, parking isn't even allowed in new towers.

Yeah, that was our first look at the model, as well as a view somewhat of the base (darker shaded).

A look at limited parking and bike space in the lower levels...

In a couple of years, this tower will be added to the view of this pan...

At first glance, this Tower has everything for itself. It is tall and slender. However I can't help but think that given its location and height, its design is terrible. This tower totally ignore its environment and looks out of place. For once I wish it would be way shorter, no more than 1000 feet or at least they should redesign the last part of the top to erase the box effect.

When one think that Tower Verre (which has a much more interesting design) has been scaled down... Where are the Nimbies on this one ? For once they could be helpful.

^^you're joking.. all I am saying is if you gave any other big name architect a crack at this building then they'd design something better, or at least more interesting then this monotonous twig that robert venturi has come up with.

No, it's not. Not even close.

I look forward to the building going up though.

I don't know what you mean by "out of place". If it's a reference to height, it may help you to know that's the point of it. As far as design, it's no more out of place than any other skyscraper in the City. You can either like it or hate it, but it can't really be called out of place.

It looks out of place because it's out of scale compared to the nearby buildings, because it's on a midblock site, because it doesn't fill the L-shaped plot, and because it will leave the blank walls of all the nearby buildings visible like a Kaufman special.

Add to that, that they could have kept the facades of the townhouses instead of destroying them.

...and that just about sums up how Macklowe is a Philistine.

Because there's nothing special about them. Yes, form follows function... but the form of a box looks boring. A box is the most economical use of space, but I'd rather look at a Van Gogh painting than the box it came in.

Yeah and the Twin Towers were two big boxes. Yet I don't see people complaining about them.
