Clothes are definitely something I gotta buy in person. Sizing, comfort, fit and how it looks on me are obvious reasons. In many cases, what looks good on the pretty model in an ad will look dorky on me! Also, I'm picky enough to want to check out the quality and feel of the fabric, stitching and all that.

^ and hey I agree with that. But the trend in fashion retail is towards online sales. I am not a fashion person, prefer to just go get what I need and get out (Winners and Simons thank-you) but if you are a fashion person and know the brands It appears you have no problems, I think people are moving towards online clothes shopping at a pretty quick pace, and that's what all folks in the know are saying...

Once I switched to made-to-measure & made-on-demand clothing my local shopping for clothes changed to basically socks & undies (and even that's half online) & the quality went through the roof. If time wasn't a factor I'd even have gotten my wedding suit bespoke instead of shelling out $2500 @ Hugo Boss.

Hate shopping online, to each their own. Unfortunate the trend is to the net. Going global is destroying the local.

I actually buy more Canadian (& American for better & for worse) made clothes than I did before I made the switch to online over brick & mortar. I don't consider buying something made in Bangladesh, Thailand, Malaysia or wherever "shopping locally", even if I get it down the street. I'd sooner support a seamstress in Toronto than a spotty faced sweater folder from Mill Woods pushing stuff made in deplorable conditions in Asia.

^ a lot of people buy clothes online - then go to the store locally to exchange if required.

Both these mean Whyte has to change too, which I hope means lower lease rates and more opportunity for local businesses to jump back in. That's what made/makes Whyte special.
I think one of the main issues with Whyte is related to landlords and their willingness to either reinvest in their space or offer tenant improvement allowances that can attract tenants. Demand is there. I can say this given the deals that we have done in our buildings which our main floor space has all been spoken for. We have achieved rates that reflect the current market realities enough to provide a return on the investment we have made.

The sears section is the newest part.
Damn it now Kal-Tire is going to have to move unless it already closed too.
Bowling alley is a must keep, it should be an A-list historical resource!

The sad part is that there is a good chance this guy actually was raging about the NDP.

Oh Albertans...

I've heard some comments out there that Morguard isn't equipped to handle a sizeable redevelopment project, let alone a stand-alone project these days.

Maybe just jealous market gossip, who knows, but when where there's smoke...

Doesn't look in distress to me:

but certainly compared to the pension funds, they have tighter belts and can't play as long of a game.

With a Valley Line LRT stop, be a great location (Bonnie Doon) for a TOD.

The problem to this point is that there really hasn't been a significant movement towards proper TOD at any of the other stops really. This area also has Regency looking at a large scale redevelopment and Strathern waiting in the wings at some point ?

Something will eventually happen at the mall site in the long term, but in the medium term I hate to say it.. pad sites

Local store issues ultimatum to downtown Edmonton: ‘use us or lose us’
http://globalnews.ca/news/3160169/lo.../?sf49417325=1

I've never had any desire to shop there and I don't intend to now. Maybe they do better with the granola muncher set in Old Strathcona, but downtown has a different demographic altogether.
