Even regular Hyundai cars and KIA have a huge wait time. I was looking online and the estimated wait for almost all models of EV & ICE cars is 18 - 24 months.
My BF's sister in Korea is buying a Hyundai and she has to wait nearly two years for delivery. I think she said the wait is 20 months.

^You can get a Tesla 3 in 2 weeks, and a Model Y in 2 months.

Lordstown Motors, one of the new crop of "Tesla-killer" EV manufacturers sold a grand total of three (3) of their flagship Endurance EV pickup in the 4th quarter of 2022 when they commenced production.

I was in SoCal a few weeks ago and saw my first Rivian.
...and then my second... and third... and...

Probably about 10 in a week. And the number of Tesla's on the road there is phenomenal. I mean, it makes sense, but it almost seemed the 3 was the most common single model of anything on the highways.

Nope.
But think they're well made cars in 2023. Maybe you should test drive some to see what I mean since you seem to have outdated views on them.

My gf has a Kia Soul. It's nice but underpowered and feels like you're sitting on a skateboard. Not so nice are all the recalls, the shitty dealership experience and the feeling you're driving a brand comparable with 1990s Pontiac.

If the Casper was sold here with MT, I'd buy it. As it stands my next car will likely be an imported Japanese Kei car/van.

Yes.
My Dad was told he literally bought one of the first Sorento PHEVs (2022) in Ontario (first in Niagara) right when the production backlog hit back in Sept 2021. I was with my Pops at the dealer when they told him "it's a good thing you bought it now, there's a production backlog and no dealer in Ontario or even Canada-wide will have inventory". They claimed it was entirely related to the computer chip shortage.

They told us that they even get calls from Americans looking for the latest Kias (dealership was in Niagara Falls--border city).

They also said the ICE Telluride was the hottest vehicle, that they could sell them as fast as they get them. Kia would be smart to offer PHEV or EV versions of that SUV.

The Soul has problems, at least the older ones in particular 2012-2016 did.
My mom's best friend had one and loved it until it left her stranded on the side of the highway.
What year is your gf's?

Don't compare that with a 2022 Sorento PHEV. It's in a different league.

That puts them as the number 3 BEV pickup truck manufacturer, behind Ford and Rivian but far ahead of Tesla. Not bad for a startup!

I've seen one Lucid on the road in downtown Vancouver but it had demonstration plates on it. Other than that I haven't really seen any.

I do see a growing number of Polestar cars and I did see a Rivian the other day. There are many electric versions of other brands, like Hyundai, Kia, Ford, Audi, VW etc but most of them don't really stand apart so you never really know if its electric or not.

Luxury EV maker Lucid appears to have a demand problem

PUBLISHED FRI, FEB 24
John Rosevear
@JOHN__ROSEVEAR

KEY POINTS
Luxury electric vehicle maker Lucid said during its fourth-quarter earnings report that it had “over 28,000” reservations for its Air sedan as of Feb. 21, down from “over 34,000″ reservations in November.

It plans to build just 10,000 to 14,000 vehicles in 2023, despite factory capacity to build more.

Lucid stock has sold off since its earning report, as demand concerns raised questions for investors.

Probably because they cost between $121,500 and $327,500 CAD

The Touring model that Car & Driver recommend costs $148,500
C&D give the Lucid Air 9/10

I know, probably going after Tesla owners who feel the brand has gotten too common.

from my brief glance at Tesla Canada page,
Model S ranges between $122,990 - $149,990 (Plaid edition)

significantly cheaper than most Lucid Air variants. Lucid has to make a name for itself. It won Motor Trend Car of the Year, and they proved you can drive from LA to downtown SF but most people don't even know it exists. But the price is a tough pill to swallow even amongst ultra wealthy Canucks for a brand almost no one yet knows.

Yeah I think they are the most common car on the road in the Bay Area at the moment. It’s not uncommon to see 5 in a row of the same color pass by or see 5 various Teslas go “5 wide” on the highway, to use an American football term.

North Vancouver must have the highest ratio of Teslas on the road in Canada. Winnipeg probably the least.

I've definitely seen a lot more Lucids than I have MX-30s.

US: Mazda MX-30 Sales Remain In Single Digits In February 2023
Well, it seems that the new model year is not selling well then, huh?

Mark Kane

According to Mazda, in February, only two MX-30 were sold in the US, after nine in January. Well, a year ago the results were at least in the two-digit area (respectively 33 and 46).

We can only guess that these weird numbers are caused by either a limited supply of the new MX-30 or weak demand (especially since the car is not eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit). Let's recall that the base price starts at $34,110 (plus a $1,275 destination charge) and the EPA combined range is only 100 miles.

...

Well, the stats are ruthless - 516 Mazda MX-30s sold over 18 months in the US (actually only in California).

If you’re buying a car in that price range, it makes more sense to go with a prestige brand (think Porsche Taycan) or just skip going BEV altogether since the price of gas is likely a trivial concern.

Model S and X just got 5-10% price cuts in the US too, likely following suit here.

Interestingly, despite being relatively old (and expensive) products, they still are selling quite well. Still outselling fresher and more affordable EVs like the Ioniq 5, ID4, EV6 although those aren't exactly its direct competitors.

Cars like the R1T/R1S, EQS, e-tron, Taycan, iX, and Lucid are more in its segment (premium/luxury EVs) but the Model S/X are still outselling those quite handily.
