And if conservatory Tower is ever built, it will block 77 W. Wacker. But that's okay...

Hands down my favorite building going up in Chicago. The facade works very well.

So from what I understand, this new white material is being used for the construction of the last 3 or so floors and the building's steelwork is topped out. Do I have that right?

If so, what is this new material? And why are the last few floors being constructed with it instead of with the "concrete core, steel frame" structure used on the rest of the building?

Taft, If you take a look at the renderings on the first page you will see that the top of this one has several flying buttresses. I believe that the new support will carry them. Anyone else have some thoughts on the change.

There are many reasons it could have changed:

1. Structural steel contract probably ended when they "topped off" the structural steel. This steel is likely the responsibility of the curtainwall installer.

2. The steel looks either to be coated with a special paint or galvanized. The upper parts of the building might be partly exposed to the elements (many decorative tops on buildings are not fully enclosed), or else they might be worried about corrosion due to excessive moisture from steam generated by mounted rooftop units.

3. If these members don't visibly get fireproofed, then it might be a fireproof paint (but I doubt this will be the case).

For the life of me I cannot figure out where this is at? Is this between 300 N LaSalle and the Helene Curtis building? Basically allowing access to the river?

Great pics as always, Harryc.

It looks to me like it may be in the back of the building...connecting it with that brick building to the left of it.

Runs along the west side of Helene Curtis, will connect LaSalle and Wells, as the old one along the parking garage did. That shot was looking E, these are looking W

These shots are from early May
