No one is posting from an alternate universe, is it always necessary to name call. Can people simply disagree maturely, name-calling is always the last state of a weak positioned individual. Which I don't believe you are. I believe Preckwinkle is a better choice, some of you disagree and believe Lightfoot is the better choice, that's fine .That's my last comment on the subject until close to election time, sayonara......

Well there you go Joyce and his voters...

Ironically, all of those cops will have to live with a new mayor in Lightfoot or Preckwinkle, both of whom strongly back tough police reforms and increased accountability.

Good luck to you Joyce single digit voters and be ready now take it over the barrel.

Did anyone see Lori Lightfoot and Preckwinkle interviewed on 2 consecutive nights on Chicago Tonight ?

Lightfoot: thoughtful, humble, open

Preckwinkle: arrogant, assuming, dismissive

Interesting map showing where Lightfoot / Preckwinkle came in second place:

Seems the precincts Mendoza carried are key.

From my perspective, it seems like a disingenuous argument used to reinforce a predetermined assumption. You can't have it both ways.
Thanks for the response.

I think this is a fatal flaw in the way people view the world and how we see one thing totally different(not saying one way is right, reality is how you view it). You see that as a hypocrisy in him giving out money and conservatives viewing the government doing that as bad. However, the difference is the government uses all our money to give people money to get votes, this man was using his own money. He wasn't using *mine*. Huge difference. I will not take away from the obvious issues where it could look like hes literally buying votes though.

Just to have an outside perspective from someone who is pretty conservative...

I looked over both of their campaign pages and I found Preckwinkle way less business friendly and more extreme on some issues. I didn't see a *huge* difference, but it was there. Then I watched a debate between them(and others, of course) and I found Lightfoot to be way less hostile to business and overall a climate of ...progress? Preckwinkle seemed to only think of social issues.

Yeah, this is why I am voting for Lightfoot. She definitely seems more moderate than Prekwinkle. And we have Prekwinkle's record as County President, which has been pretty bad.

You are fundamentally misunderstanding my position, it has nothing to do with where the money comes from (or Wilson for that matter). It has to do with how "conservatives" view the recipients of the money. In one instance they are viewed as having no agency and blindly following the promise of handouts from Democrats. In the other instance, free money has no impact on them and they are simply voting their convictions. It's inconsistent.

No, in one instance a rich man is giving you 100 dollars. In the other instance, you will get hundreds of dollars or thousands in benefits for months or years. 100 dollars is nice but its not gonna take care of you for months or years. Government welfare can make you dependent, 100 dollars from a random guy can't.

I think in the 1970s 1 in 51 workers were on disability. Today that number is 1 in 13. That's insane. I know people who make 1300 a month in disability from the military because of acid reflux and anxiety. These people live terribly normal and productive lives. Yet they make about 15k a year for free. If they were to have never worked or lived in a rough area, they might decide to live on that 15k and get other benefits. Human nature is a very understandable thing.

But were off topic. I don't know enough about the Wilson situation to say what he did was legal or morally right when he was seeking office. I do think he was a good man to do it though.

As a physician who serves a majority low income community in the far north burbs, I can attest to the fact that the abuse of the system is rampant.

I have patients who are clearly not disabled asking me to fill disability paperwork and handicap parking placards on a nearly daily basis.

I almost always oblige unless it’s utterly ridiculous.

It’s a rampant problem and I largely blame the Democrats for creating a system of enabling this behavior without any checks in place to prevent abuse. I suspect this is largely due to their desire to win votes.

One example is a 38 year old female who is perfectly able bodied. She wanted disability paperwork filled because “I haven’t worked in 10 years”. She goes from doctor to doctor, specialist to specialist, essentially making up symptoms that prevent her from working. She keeps very detailed notes and records. I had to put my foot down in her case, and I basically told her that I cannot enable this. She’s an intelligent enough woman with obvious bookkeeping skills, now imagine if she plied her skills in doing an actual job instead of trying to get out of work and receive Government checks for the rest of her life!

Of course, instead of working I’m sure she will instead just move on to another doctor. Happens all the time.

Here are some people talking about how they voted for Willie Wilson because of his conservative policies:

I don't see any of that in this article. One woman says her favorite candidate was Eniya (the least conservative candidate on the ballot).

The reasons given are below. I'm not sure which ones are about "conservative policies":
Quote:
“I liked that he was concerned about those who had the least,” Deleen said. “He cares about helping the youth, and reaching out to people. He’s hands-on.”

“He’s a self-made millionaire,”

“A lot of people don’t understand how politics work. People tend to vote for those they have a relationship with.”

Yea, it seems like they liked Wilson mainly because they feel a personal connection to him, and he's one of their own people. They get him, and they they don't get Lightfoot. She grew up in small town in Ohio that's mostly white. She might as well be a white liberal lady from Wisconsin to them. Lightfoot didn't even visit the southside much, she courted the bleeding heart northside liberal, and was successful. Most of the liberals I know would have voted for her because she is a female, minority lesbian. To bad she's not also a disabled veteran too. Then she would have every protected group covered. They feel like they're doing their part for social justice. And it didn't seem to have anything to do with Wilson's conservative politics from what the article says.

She likes Preckwickle since she might "provide resources to the community". Aka liberal government money for schools, community centers, basketball hoops ect. Nothing conservative about that.

Most recent poll has Lightfoot way ahead:

https://capitolfax.com/2019/03/04/po...kwinkle-58-30/

Seems like a really small sample, and I don't know anything else about the quality of the poll besides that. But still!

Let's hope it stays that way. We can't afford Prekwinkle as mayor.

Depends on the number of undecideds. If the number is low, it's unlikely that Buttstinkle will be able to draw them to her side. She has nothing new to put out there to change peoples' minds. Everybody already knows who she is and what her policies are.

But it's never good to get too comfortable. Lightfoot needs to fight this out like she's losing

lightfoot 58-30!

well that's certainly encouraging.

but yeah, sodawinkle has quite the warchest to launch her attacks with.

lori will certainly need to fight like a disadvantaged candidate because, funding-wise, she is.
