I think its time to make Budaj the starting goalie. Price has had way too many BAD games and he may have just cost them the division title.

What I mean is, it sounds like Mactavish is poised to make trades just for the sake of making trades.

Aside from one or two of those goals there wasn't much he could have done. His team just wasn't really backing him up very well tonight.

Vancouver knocks Nashville out of the playoffs with a 5-2 win. Now 54 points and only 3 points behind Montreal.

Wow... we're in trouble if Gorges and Bouillon are going to be our 3rd and 4th D.

Also I like Price but he simply hasn't been good this season.

Price: 19-10-7, 2,50 GAA, 0.908 sv%
Budaj: 7-1-1, 2,19 GAA, 0.915 sv % (including 2 wins vs the Bruins, IN Boston)

I know today was not his fault but he still gave a soft goal.

Gallagher is an absolute beast though. Tied Huberdeau for the rookie lead with his 13th goal.

BTW-Desharnais is approaching buyout territory for me... Jesus Christ, he's HORRIBLE!!! I feel bad for Pacioretty and Gallagher having to play with him.

I'm not sure it makes much of a difference. The Oilers core of young players are still very young, and still need a bit of time to mature, but should still be a force in upcoming years. Mac-T will get the credit whether he deserves it or not.

Good on Hanowski scoring his first NHL goal in his first NHL game. Beartschi scores another too. Nice to see the Jackets win

Kevin Lowe staying on as a part of Oilers management is good news for Flames fans!

How does this guy manage to stick around? Can any of you Oiler guys offer some insight into this?

This will be maybe 2-3 games I'd say. He's not a repeat offender yet, but yeah that was just dirty and stupid and ultimately lost them the game. at 5-3 the Bell Center was just booing.

@artvandelay: The Oilers always hire within their circle or friends. Always former Oilders and no one outside the box.
If McTavish does not address their need of Defense they will continue to miss the playoffs every year. When they went to the Cup Finals they had a great defence and good shut down guys. They need it again if they want to remain competitive.

A Toronto win tonight will end the longest active playoff drought in the league. It's hard to believe I was only 10 years old the last time I saw a Leaf's playoff game.

I know all of you will be cheering for the Capitals tonight.

Nope...not Jets fans!

Please, Leafs show the Caps the door to the slide....

As long as Kevin Lowe is at the helm of Oilers management, the Oiler could be looking at becoming the Maple Leafs 2.0.

I don't care if Lowe was an Oiler, or that he's got 6 Stanley Cup rings as an excuse to keep his job, he should have been FIRED a long time ago.

I'm just glad Lowe is still at the helm

In the end the Oilers should do pretty well. All those young players are getting better, and it's just a matter of time before they're a playoff team. What mgmt does after that is going to be key.

If he's being called for a hearing in-person then it will probably be 5+.

White's a dirty player and the NHL knows it.

Edmonton should want to finish dead last, Seth Jones is exactly what they need. That and a goaltender.

Too bad Toronto. The one day that I want them to win. On the Jets front, we are still in ninth but tied for points with New York (who sits at 8th). We have more regulation wins, however they have a game on hand.

BTW I despise shootouts, as well as overtime, especially when trying desperately to clinch a playoff spot. I was shaking for half an hour today because I was so nervous.

Good wake up call for Price.

Quote:
BROSSARD - The Montreal Canadiens will give struggling goaltender Carey Price a rest when they face the first-place team in the NHL's Eastern Conference.

Veteran backup Peter Budaj will get the start when the Canadiens try to stop a two-game losing run against the Penguins in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.

Coach Michel Therrien explained the move Tuesday by saying he has "two good goalies" and likes to use them both.

Looks like the division lead is slipping away, but they still have a chance to overtake the Rangers. Basically with 5 games left in the season, a spot in the playoffs comes down to Winnipeg and NYR. The Rangers look to have an easier schedule, but that doesn't always pan out. In fact sometimes those teams like Florida and Carolina are tough to play at this time of year.
