Pouring cement and cold temperatures don't go well together. They are probably playing it safe rather than having weak walls on lower floors or having to tear some down because the curing process doesn't meet specs. Too costly!!! Should see activity pick up mid march

Structural steel went up last week just before the storm. Not much new happening at present.

When I was at second cup last Wednesday, they were just starting to put the roof on. So that’s a huge thing to get done this week.

I actually haven't noticed much concrete work done on the building over the past couple of weeks. They seem to be mostly working on the outside walls of the lower floors.

Here in Freddy, they are still pouring concrete on the new building on Regent. But the forms are covered with orange blankets/insulation to help control the temperatures.

I see that they are (finally) beginning to install the light poles on the extension of Twin Oaks Drive leading to the Ryan Street roundabout.

This new extension of Twin Oaks heralds big things in terms of neighbourhood development in the not too distant future. Twin Oaks (with Horsman) will increasingly become a vital corridor, in addition to it's nascent role as the southern access point to the northwest end neighbourhood. There are potentially big things on the horizon for this area, which will lead to this area becoming the heart of the northwest end (at least as much as Mountain Road is).



All developments currently under construction, or land potentially to be developed in the future have been outlined in blue.

1) - Moncton North YMCA is currently under construction.
2) - Cordova Realty has purchased all land on the east side of the Twin Oaks extension, presumably for future apartment building construction.
3) - Corey Craig has purchased a large triangular piece of property on the east side of Horsman Road for the future construction of a neighbourhood retail plaza.
4) - There is a large piece of land on the NW corner of the Horsman/Berry Mills intersection currently zoned P-1 (land for public purposes). The Anglophone East School Board has recently revealed that they feel the time has come for a fifth anglophone high school in greater Moncton, serving the northwest end. There are few pieces of land left in the northwest end that could accommodate such a large project. I personally feel this land would be ideal, especially given it's proximity to Evergreen Park School and Maplehurst Middle School. Please note however that this is a personal opinion, and others (especially those in power) may feel differently.

Here is a pre-existing rendering of what Corey Craig has in mind for it's proposed retail plaza on the east side of Horsman.



In any event, I predict that this area will look entirely urban within 10 years time. The extension of Twin Oaks to the Ryan Street roundabout will have unlocked a lot of potential in the neighbourhood. With the nearby schools (both anglophone and francophone), the YMCA across the street, and the proposed neighbourhood retail plaza within walking distance, I'm confident that Cordova will move quickly on building a cluster of apartment buildings on the east side of Twin Oaks.

Speaking on road extensions, the maplehurst extension to ryan road is now open as well as the road between falcon and ryan. All of the roads connecting to Ryan are now completed.

I drove the Maplehurst extension yesterday. I wouldn't say it's completed. It's a frozen over dirt road at this point. But I am glad it's now open. It will make driving my son to school exponentially easier.

I assumed it was open as it had been plowed. Even if it’s not completed, it’s at least open, so that’s good.

Story on the T&T website says this was discussed at City Hall Monday evening. The city thought the traffic circle was a done deal, but it sounds like the province pulled the plug.

Does anybody know the length of new Moncton Road/St. that was approved by council last night? I watched the presentation and they said the long term vision is to have this street connect to Louis j. Robichaud.

At present, it will just be a stub, supplying only the new 100,000 sq ft Kent store (but presumably with an extension of some kind to supply Audubon Organics. It eventually will be a main gateway to the Vision Lands, and will parallel the TCH.

I'm not entirely sure how accurate this diagram is. It's hard to imagine that they wouldn't do everything in their power to extend LJR Blvd all the way through to Crowley Farm Road and then on to UdeM. The symbolism of having LJR Blvd leading to the main entrance of UdeM is too powerful to ignore. I'm sure the influential Acadian community in the city would lobby strongly for this.

I'm sure the alignment of Lady Ada Blvd and Moncton Street however are accurate, and that there will be a cross connector as depicted extending southward towards LJR Blvd.

A few tidbits from the industrial parks in Moncton West:

1) - current status of Atlantic Outdoor on DesBrisay Ave in the MID West Industrial Park:



2) - there is a new foundation going in on the SE corner of DesBrisay and Cooke Drive in the MID West Industrial Park. Does anyone have any idea what this is for?

3) - current status of the former Kent warehouse on English Drive in the main MID Industrial Park.



When Kent vacated this property for their massive new regional distribution centre in the Caledonia Industrial Park, this property was sold, and was stripped down to it's steel framework for redevelopment. The new building is nearly a complete rebuild and looks very nice. I am not sure who is responsible for this but I have a suspicion that it might be for Armour Transportation Group (they have a large distribution facility right next door). Does anyone have any further info on this???

Yep, it is Atlas Truss Systems....an Irving Company. They will be manufacturing here.

So, JDI just repurposed the property then when Kent moved out.

They've done a fine job. The new building looks quite nice. Give Irving it's due, they tend to do a good job designing and building their industrial buildings.
