Centennial Nissan

The steel is up, most of it anyway. This project is moving right along.

Hampton Inn

They started to install the window frames. The final floor is nearly done.

It's getting hard to keep up with all the construction going on in the Greater Charlottetown area. It just keeps coming.
I was over to Halifax last weekend and they have a lot of projects under way too.

Lots of construction going on in the urban areas. Is Moncton, Saint John, Freddy experiencing this too?

You should read the Moncton thread(s) to find out!

In general, for Moncton, the boom continues but most of the major projects are completed or nearing completion. There are several potential large projects on the horizon, but ground has not been broken yet, and I'm one for not counting my chickens until they hatch. In other words, I don't get excited until the shovels are in the ground.

Examples for Moncton:
1) - large Shannex development off of Mapleton road (cancelled)
2) - Tannery Place apartment building off Vaughan Harvey (no signs of activity)
3) - Harper Street hotel project (<crickets><crickets><crickets>)

we'll see..........

Yeah it's good to check out the other city threads to get a feel for what's happening.

To me, it feels like most of the NB cities are holding their breath. SJ and Moncton have some major projects that are nearly/just recently completed, and they have a lot of announced projects on the edge of starting.

Fredericton doesn't really have any other major projects at the moment, and just finished the Hilton project. But like SJ and Moncton, we have a few announced but no fresh projects actually on going.

So yeah, as I said, NB cities seem to be in a rest phase. Next year we should see a bunch of stuff coming, but no high profile stuff like the Avenir Centre or Irving HQ in the offing.

Your right, I'll have to look at Moncton, Freddy, SJ more often.
I do look at TO and Ottawa often.

Looks like the development at 24 Water Street (corner of Water and Pownal streets) is up in the air, and for sale:

Mitsubishi dealer is moving into the building at the corner of Mt. Edward and Sherwood Rd. Saw the sign as I drove by a couple of days ago.

Development at the corner of Capital Drive and the roundabout across from Nissan is underway.

New apartment building across from the Hampton Inn development, as stated earlier by Billy1, is going on with the foundation already in place.

New building on the airport rd, the steel is up,

and many more. Construction in the Charlottetown area is at a fever pitch right now.

This will be a Gas Station, Convenience Store, Car Wash and standalone Restaurant;

"The development will include gas pumps, a 2,500 square-foot convenience store, 2,000 square-foot “quick service” restaurant and a 1,200 square-foot, stand-alone car wash."

In the detailed plans submitted to IRAC, it actually lists two restaurants for this property. A 4500 sq ft restaurant by itself and a 2000 sq ft restaurant attached to the convenience store (page 29).

Any idea what restaurants might open in that location? I could see Tim Horton's making the jump from their current location on North River Road, which is difficult to access. Maybe even McDonald's, too. It would be nice to see something new.

I'm not sure. I do know that FIONN MACCOOL'S was advertising for a Charlottetown franchisee a couple months back and the ad is no longer on their site. The 4500 sq ft restaurant would fit them.

Sears building sold and will be redeveloped into retail centre.

"A local developer is planning to purchase the Sears property in Charlottetown and convert it into a "power centre" featuring retail stores.

"We've got a contractual agreement with the trustee to purchase the building," said Tim Banks, CEO of APM Group.

Also included are about six hectares of land, Banks said."

"By subdividing the 109,000-square-foot Sears building and developing the accompanying land, Banks said there could be room for at least 10 stores."

4 Cruise ships dock in Charlottetown at once.

"In total, the four ships brought an estimated 8,148 passengers and 3,308 crew members into the city."

I think it would have been more accurate to state "Four Cruise Ships Visit Charlottetown Concurrently", since at least two of them would have been moored in the harbour rather than actually "docked", because of a shortage of wharfage space.

It would have been a sight to see though........

Construction Continues at Corner

This Capital Drive Corner is the busiest area for construction on PEI. In the picture is the new Hampton Inn. In front of that is ground being prepped for a new gas bar and restaurant. Across from that is a new Nissan dealership and across from the Hampton Inn is a new apartment building.
All good!
