Well thank god for the Delta Center news and what could be a pretty substantial high-rise.

Poor wrendog. He was unsatisfied with 22 stories ... to find out it'll be 11 lmao ugh

I am assuming the high-rise residential and hotel is part of Phase One. Really interesting that the height is tied to the first phase.

Yes, if you go back a few posts, you can see a residential tower and hotel in the rendering of phase 1. Phase two is the block to the east, which is grayed/lined out.

Their plan is to begin Delta Center renovations in April, 2025. No surprise there as they'll likely work around the offseason.

Those renderings of the Entertainment district look exciting. That was good news. Now - I try to be positive, but what IHC showed today was pathetic. Talk about over promise and under deliver! We will have suburban looking buildings with mid rise heights, no street engagement and ugly architecture. Nice - can't wait!

But, the entertainment district could be sweet.

For those who didn't see the rendering for the IHC hospital on State:

It's basically Utah Valley Hospital with a big parking garage in Downtown SLC

I'm allowed to be bummed about the IHC news, right?

SEG plans look great!

I am still incredibly curious about the inside renovation of the DC and how it will fit NBA and NHL... 2 offseasons still doesn't seem like enough, especially if they make a playoff run....

That’s the worst render I’ve ever seen for a major development, and I’m not talking about the massing(that sucks, too).. the artist they hired to create that drawing didn’t give a fuck, there’s no detail what the hell?

I would assume that parking garage on the backside of the DC will be reserved for players and team officials/staff as there's not much room for anything else. That's where they park currently.

I think I like this preliminary plan for the district. I’m in the traffic calming group but if they can create a legit plaza there with round the clock activation instead of a glorified pedestrian crossing I might be on board with burying 300 W. Still curious who will pay and how much.

What’s the likelihood David Bernolfo offloads his properties for a reasonable price? I’m guessing <10%. Hope it works out because Fidelity and surface parking need to go.

SEG has stated multiple times that the 900 million for the state will be going towards the DC renovation and SEG would be spending another 3 billion or so...

3 comments about the entertainment district:

1) Why didn't they incorporate the Radisson and the Southeast corner of 3oo West and South Temple?? Super huge hole to plug up.

2) How are they going to do that plaza over 300 west and get it to go under???

3) Why aren't they tearing down the ugly old building on the other corner of 300 West?? If Ryan Smith has the money, then why doesn't he propose to buy those corner properties???!

Also, where are you guys getting those renderings? Is there a link? The ksltv link is now "page not found". Does anyone know who the architect is that is doing this work?

The IHC looks like every horizontal line is 2 stories tall? I could be wrong. Also, do we really need another skybridge?? Put the parking garage on the same block and squeeze the footprints of those towers to be taller.

[QUOTE=joscar;10223494]Look like we're only get the conceptual plan for phase 1 of SEG's district. The good news is they're going to save the Fiedelity building.

The number I heard Mike Maughan say was $500M of the total $900M goes toward Delta Center reno. The other $400M goes toward the district. Another $300M beyond the $900M cap to SEG can be used by the county for Abravenal/Convention center.

I just listened to the entire council meeting tonight and I am very encouraged by the reaction of the council members. They all seem very positive about the project. It was a brilliant move by SEG to bring in economist Natalie Gouchner from the Ken Gardner Institute to explain why the four cornerstones of sports, entertainment, culture and convention is key to downtown and the greater success of the region. Those are singular amenities and if you lose them you create a donut/vacuum and downtown will spiral downward. I’m pressed by SEGs ability to work collaboratively and consider all stakeholders. Based on the councils comments tonight I think this is happening. Very excited!

Her doughnut metaphor was a good one and it's true. Salt Lake lost a lot between the 1960s and end of the 80s. It stopped being a destination and we're still trying to catch up after decades of a dead downtown.

What she meant by the doughnut is that not properly investing in a downtown can create a hole where all the goodies so to speak are on the outside and there's nothing in the middle.

I definitely think she did a good job discussing the importance of making Salt Lake the sports, entertainment and convention center of the region.

And yes, it sounds like pretty much the whole council is on board. They'll certainly pass to increase it seems.

This was a major problem. They could have hired a better firm (rather than internal) and got more people on board. There's just no detail here and it doesn't give a good impression that there will be good activation -- it makes us (and the city council) assume the worst. That being said, I think this is probably better than most of their other facilities. The plaza space in the middle is great. What the renderings showed me is a hospital would be phenomenal in that area. The city council needs to be careful that they don't try to turn a hospital into something completely different or they'll lose the project. They are going to have to meet IHC half way.

That being said, IHC needs to be smarter. I just can't believe they didn't anticipate the kind of pushback they got.

I made screenshots of the "Meeting Materials" PDF from the City Council's website. Actually saw them earlier today, but had to wait until I was home from work before I had a minute to post. There's more graphics in the PDF.
