Snowed pretty good today, and still have at least 12 hours left in this storm. The trees are starting to get quite weighed down now, if there isn't a break in this snow there are going to be lots of broken branches and possibly some downed power lines too. Roads are mostly clear still though, temperature either at or just above freezing right now.

I went out and shook the snow off the trees in my yard and in front of my house to help prevent them from breaking.

Winnipeg frost

Don’t know where you are getting that from but there was no -5 frost here in Winnipeg , flowers and plants are fine ! This happened last year also when we apparently had a -7 c frost and everything was fine plants wise ! We are 7 km from the airport only I’ll take pics to prove no frost at all . Has to be a glitch no way plants survive -5 c .

Most larger metropolitan areas can have a great range in temperatures and weather. This summer our neck of the woods in Calgary got nches of rain in 90 minutes while some parts of the city got hardly anything and officially at the airport (YYC) they didn't get near the rainfall we did even though we're located less than 6km from that Environment Canada weather site.

My aunt sent me some pictures of her backyard in SW Calgary , looks to be about 25cm on the ground and she says its still snowing.

I saw on TWN that parts of Southern Alberta near Lethbridge have 70cm on the ground with more to come! That's simply unreal.

Urbanized areas often stay warmer at night, and plants can be sheltered by structures.. Closer to the river would probably help too.

14C and sunny today. Chilly, it definitely felt like fall.

Low of 7C this morning. There was a freeze this morning as close as Maniwaki, 250 km northwest of Montreal.

The warmspot was Western Head, NS at about 22.3C. That's the highest hourly temperature. The data is incorrect and gives 29.5C for the official high.

Some areas NW of Lethbridge and SW of Calgary were at 80cm this afternoon, my parents in High River had 35cm down this morning. I think tomorrow might be a great stay at home day because it's still snowing quite heavily meaning shit roads in the morning. Environment Canada has updated their warnings to 110-120cm for some areas, unreal.

EC has a low of -0.5 on the 28th for Winnipeg.

Weather network shows an low of +2.5.

Who knows. It definitely didn't freeze where I am.

I think EC is just trying to screw WPG on this freeze list. Assholes.

I thought this storm was suppose to end tonight, but its now gonna linger until tomorrow afternoon. So much for getting anything done on my days off......

Calgary's forecast changed and it looks we're going to stay below average for more than a week still. After this weekend, we are owed an entire month of warm weather honestly.

Monday: 0
Tuesday: 4
Wednesday: 6
Thursday: 11
Friday: 11
Saturday: 12

The upside is its suppose to be sunny and should still melt completely by week's end.

My flight was delayed today cause it originated in Calgary and westjet said Calgary was a mess.

Anyway as of 11:45 pm Vancouver time the Northern Lights are visible basically across the whole country my ap says Vancouver has an 80% chance of seeing them so get out there!

Breezy, dry and mostly sunny. Sunday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 16 C, the low was 10 C.

Yep, & how does Saskatoon get to October without frost but somewhere like Sherbrooke, Quebec sneaks in without any notice, at the end of September onto the freeze list for the win, just doesn't seem fair.

This Calgary snow reminds me a couple years ago when the first & wettest snow was the heaviest snow of the year, probably not until it gets substantially colder will the smaller snow accumulations be more the norm for Winter.

125cm at Castle Mountain Resort in SW Alberta, too bad it's not winter yet because that's an epic storm for a ski hill!

Looks to be about 10cm at my place, switched the bike to studded tires, going to ride into work and avoid the absolute carnage that will be Calgary traffic this morning.

if it wasn't for our clouds I would have been out watching. It seems the days we have the most solar activity are the days we have the most clouds.

I just checked the data and Sherbrooke will be added to the freeze list indeed. It's not abnormal though, I think Sherbrooke gets its first freeze in September pretty much every year.

I guess I had time to waste so I went back to get the entire freeze list from last year, and suprisingly Sherbrooke froze around mid-October last year but I am pretty sure that was an anomaly. Lio can attest to that but the airport is located up on the hills in an area prone to cold weather (but same as Halifax, and meanwhile Vancouver's airport is cooler in the summertime, and so on). Hell Ottawa froze before Sherbrooke last year.

A temperate that's below 0C is technically freezing but certainly not a killing frost for most plants.
