Comrade is devastated by the news. He is calling for a clown boycott.

His plan B is to start a carnival and boat rides for the criddlers who hang out near the Jordan River on North Temple.

Paniolo Man, You gave this the same address as Sparks. Is this a part of the Spark's development's backside, garage? Of the many photos we've seen of Sparks, this would be the first from this angle. Thanks again for your great updates!

Pretty sure it's actually "The Gauge" right next to Spark.

I didn't expect the Astra to be so white. It's whiter than the Church Office Building. The renderings showed white sections, but didn't convey the overwhelming glowing whiteness of it. With the white top it definitely stands out in the skyline. I'm not sure a big white building is a good thing.

time for 3-4 550+ footers to make us not even think about Astra anymore...

Astra tower

I have to disagree with you naysayers that think Astra is ugly.

I feel like at least the south and east face of the building is quite attractive
Ive seen a lot worse in other cities

I agree with Meman that the southeast angle is attractive, and I also think the south and from the southwest angle will be more attractive once another highrise is developed directly west. In hindsight though, Sight-Seer has a good point. Stark white is probably not the best choice for Salt Lake's downtown. Copper, bronze, certain shades of gray such as Westgate and The Regent, or a lot of the earth tones usually work well.

Why is stark white not a good choice? I like when a downtown has variety in textures and colors. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Astra is a great design, but the white isn't the issue for me.

When I look at Liberty Sky and Astra, I cannot believe these are two of our newest towers. From the N, NW, East view, the SLC skyline took a major hit with these two eyesores. I hope the city will evolve and learn from these mistakes, but I doubt it. They need to do a better job enforcing some sort of aesthetic guideline / appearance, when they see the final plans. I miss the mountain views, these two concrete slabs now block every day.

I know, man. I miss the Western Bacon Cheeseburger. We as a community gave up our sight-lines and criss-cut fries for what? Density, housing and city walkability mean nothing compared to my personal preferences of what a new tower should look like. This is no fair. We should do a half-day hunger strike to protest. If that doesn’t work, you or I could run for mayor based on this conspiracy and get <10% of the vote.

Totally disagree with this take.

Astra brings the skyline together and looks pretty good from most directions. West is the exception. Liberty Sky kinda just blends into the cityscape.

Tbf the buildings I dislike the most are the COB and Wells Fargo.

Wells Fargo is fine. It's a unique building, with a decent color palette that looks different from multiple angles. I don't think there's a tower anywhere that resembles it - unlike pretty much every other high-rise in Salt Lake.

When it comes to Astra, I think there's just a lot of cope going around. It's an ugly tower that looks pretty meh in the skyline.

Would have made for a killer tower in the 1980s, tho!

None of the towers in Salt Lake give me a proper chubby, but calling those two buildings concrete slabs that block mountain views? LMAO. Overly dramatic copium.

It's what I expect when I come here. Thanks for not letting anyone down.

No cope here. Once the windows are actually up on Astra, it will look better from that angle.

It looks exactly like the renderings, so I am not sure what you all expected.
