the last iaaf event we hosted at commonwealth was in 2001 and i don’t think another is on the schedule or even being bid for.

the last invitational track and field meet we hosted was at foote field and i don’t think it sold out at 3,000 seats.

Very sad news, little Ben Stelter passed away from his brain tumour. I never met the little boy but I cried when I heard the news. Rest In Peace.

He did indeed; RIP little guy.

While I never met Ben myself, I had the privilege of knowing family friends and help provide some connections to OEG. Tim Shipton and a few others were amazing in making his final months incredible.

Going to miss our biggest cheerleader and good luck charm.

MODDEJONGE: For sale sign the only thing to fix Edmonton Elks

Fixing the Elks is irrelevant. I give the CFL less than 5 years until its demise. This is from a former Woodword's Knothole Gang member. The demographic shift is too great to overcome and the CFL ostensibly means nothing to those under 40 yo.

it seems gerry has forgotten the multiple disasters of private ownership in the cfl from one person recently owning two teams (not a disaster but certainly a disaster in the making) or those privately owned teams that went bankrupt or had their owners go bankrupt with the league having to take on ownership and operations for lengthy periods of time.

interesting as well that the team that attracts the largest crowds when playing elsewhere is also a community owned team... i didn't notice gerry calling for saskatchewan to change their ownership structure.

Road closures in effect as Canada's largest street hockey festival hits Edmonton streets
September 8, 2022

Canada’s largest street hockey festival is back in Edmonton on September 10 and 11. Open to participants of all ages and experience levels, Play On! provides a unique opportunity for Canadians to gather, connect and play street hockey in an affordable and inclusive setting.

The event marks the first Play On! event in the region since before the pandemic. Over the weekend, hundreds of participants will play, support and spend, contributing to physical and mental health recovery and economic stimulus in the community.

Play On! will feature 20 street hockey rinks on 104 Avenue in front of Rogers Place and MacEwan University. This will require a number of road closures, parking restrictions and transit detours to be in effect leading up to and during the event.

Road closures and parking restrictions
Those travelling east-west to/from downtown should expect delays, particularly on Friday, September 9, when traffic is generally heavier due to those working in the city’s core:
A full closure of 104 Avenue, from 101 Street to 109 Street will be in effect from 9 a.m. on Friday, September 9 until 9 p.m. on Sunday, September 11.

Please use an alternate route. Plan ahead and leave extra time to get where you’re going.

North-south travel will be maintained for those looking to cross 104 Avenue: Use 101 Street, 102 Street or 105 Street.

Sidewalks and crosswalks will remain open during these times; pedestrian travel will not be impacted.

Alternative routes
To detour around the road closure, use:
North of the event road closure: Detour using 106 Avenue or 107 Avenue
South of the event road closure: Detour using Jasper Avenue

Parking restrictions
Parking restrictions will be in effect. Please obey all signage.

Transit detours and bus stop closures
Routes 7, 110X and 500X will detour around the road closure via Jasper Avenue. Please see the Detours and Bus Stop Closures page for details.

The Edmonton Elks have signed quarterback Taylor Cornelius to a two-year extension through to 2024. Born in Texas and seasoned at Oklahoma State, Taylor is a “young up-and-coming quarterback” who is “trending in the right direction,” according the team’s assistant general manager.

Makes me wanna go back to Rogers Place if this news is true. Sea Change Death Wave is far superior over the mass-produced horse piss by Molson.
