I was curious - so I Wikied:

"Currently, all Le Creuset cast iron cookware is still manufactured in the company's foundry in Fresnoy-le-Grand, where workers employ a 12 step finishing process implemented by 15 different pairs of hands to ensure that there are no flaws or imperfections in the final product.

However, Le Creuset products that are not cast-iron may be made in other countries, such as China (accessories or silicone products), Thailand (kettles and ceramics), England (enamel cleaner), and Portugal (stainless steel).[citation needed]"

And BTW, I saw Emile Henry for sale in the showcase yesterday at Costco Kanata.

American Apparel Files for Bankruptcy

American Apparel files for bankruptcy. Never bought anything from them, I don't even think I ever walked in the store, I know there is one in Rideau Centre.

BMR closing Builder's Warehouse in Orleans

Orleans, Ont. 2015-10-01

Groupe BMR announced in late September the gradual closing of the Builder’s Warehouse hardware store located at 3636 Innes Rd. in Orleans, Ont. The company plans to wind down operations over two to three months. The closure will affect 83 employees.

“It is a business decision that was carefully thought through. The strong competition in Orleans paired with a difficult economic context in the hardware and renovation sector has been making it hard to achieve profitability targets for several years already, despite our efforts and those of our team of employees,” stated Martin Lecomte, vice-president retail for Groupe BMR.

The company says it will ensure a fair and equitable transition for all of its employees, and will make resources available to employees to support them during this time.

A story on Ici.radio-canada.ca notes that the BMR location in Orleans is right next to a Lowe’s store, and that the area is also served by a Home Depot.

Groupe BMR Inc. is an affiliate of La Coop fédérée that operates 350 renovation and hardware stores in Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes and in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon.

OBS (Orleans Building Supply) the forerunner to the Builder's Warehouse and then BMR was the first 'depot' style store I ever did business with. I started going there in the early '80s and was still sourcing materials from them as recently as last year for my Kanata home Reno.

A credit to them that they kept in the game even though Home Depot came to town almost 20 years ago. Albeit OBS watered things down by halving its floor space to the Ashley furniture operation. Always unique products and brands unavailable elsewhere. They will be missed.

Looks like a Box by No Frills (Loblaws) grocery store will be opening on Tenth Line in Orleans, in the same plaza as Goodlife fitness and Canada Computers. The exterior was painted mustard yellow a month or two ago and yesterday I noticed that the store logo was added to the sign at the entrance of the Plaza.

There was an Asian supermarket at this site a few years ago that lasted maybe a year and a half, although it had a much larger footprint. I wonder how this place will do - there are already ample grocery choices within a short drive: No Frills near Place d'Orleans, two Farm Boys, two Metros, Superstore, Food Basics, Sobeys, Independent, Walmart. I believe a Sobeys or more likely Freshco is planned for Tenth Line/Brian Coburn.

Box? Never heard of it. Is this an attempt by Loblaws to fend off Dollarama's (and other dollar stores') encroachment on the low-end food sales market?

I believe it was posted a while back, but, Laura Secord at Bank Street and Queen Street closed several months ago. Walking by it today, I noticed there is some wood panelling up on the exterior walls of the retail space. A quick Twitter search revealed that it will likely be a coffee shop (not Bridgehead, apparently). I'm speculating, but based on the wood panelling, the only one that comes to mind is Morning Owl, which has a location a block-and-a-half south, on Bank. That place is extremely busy at peak times, so maybe they are moving to a slightly larger space in a more visible location?

Also, speaking of Morning Owl, it seems as though a pop-up Morning Owl has appeared on Elgin (380 Elgin Street) over the last few days as part of a new clothing boutique called "The Common".

Had to look that up. Didn't know a musician shared a similar name.

https://news.google.com/newspapers?n...,4027133&hl=en. Valdi discount foods was a chain of smallish warehouse stores.
