Sweet, Las Vegas all year service now. Last time I went was for an event, used my Hilton points so now I have free nights at Vegas offer so I was looking at May, but now with Swoop I'm certainly going.

More passengers choosing Hamilton International Airport

By Rick Zamperin News Anchor 900 CHML

The Hamilton International Airport says that it continues to see positive gains.

In a news release Tuesday, Hamilton International reports that 725,630 passengers travelled through John C. Munro Airport last year, a 21 per cent increase over 2017 and 118 per cent rise since 2016.

Officials say they are expecting passenger traffic to continue to grow in 2019 and beyond, thanks to new daily direct service from Hamilton to Dublin, Ireland, with Norwegian beginning in March and increased domestic flights from Swoop this summer.

“Within the last two years the Airport has seen a tremendous amount of growth as passengers continue to choose Hamilton as their airport of choice for convenient, low-cost travel,” said Cathie Puckering, President & CEO, John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport.

“Additionally, Ontario is home to a strong and rapidly growing e-commerce industry and Hamilton International is well positioned to support this thriving industry with large cargo facilities that operate 24/7,” said Puckering. “This enables companies to meet the tight deadlines that the e-commerce sector demands and spurred the continued growth evident in our cargo activity in 2018.”

Hamilton International continues to be Canada’s largest overnight express cargo airport.

In 2018, officials say cargo volume increased by five per cent compared to 2017.

I assume you mean 14 flights each week. 2 in each direction, each day.

Is swoop going to step in to provide service to MTL once Air Canada Express leaves?

Sorry for the confusion. I took this from the release. Daily means every day, no exception as in some of the other destinations.

Canada Jetlines had signed an agreement with Aéroport Montréal Saint-Hubert Longueuil (“Saint-Hubert”). This is on the south shore of Montreal and is closer to downtown Montreal than Dorval is. They still show Hamilton as their hub for operations.

Quote:
Canada Jetlines Ltd. is pleased to announce that it intends to offer ultra-low fare service to the Montréal region from Aéroport Montréal Saint-Hubert Longueuil (“Saint-Hubert”).

Saint-Hubert is being expanded as part of a plan to be positioned as a low-cost airport serving the Montréal area. Once the necessary expansions are complete, the airport will be able to support ULCC airlines by as early as 2020. The recently upgraded runway was one of the first milestones the airport achieved in order to become the low-cost airport of choice for the Montérégie region and the province. The runway reconstruction project was supported by the Canadian federal government who injected $13 million into the project. The airport also has plans to build a new passenger terminal building.

“We are excited to enter into this partnership with the Saint-Hubert airport and support their vision of building a low-cost alternative airport in the Montréal region. Montréal travellers deserve a low cost domestic option and those looking for low cost air travel options destined south should not have to drive across the border to Plattsburgh. The Saint-Hubert airport has our full support and we look forward to working together to design and build what will become Jetlines base in Montréal,” stated Javier Suarez, CEO. “Saint-Hubert is a short commute out of the downtown core of Montréal, and our passengers will not only benefit from ultra-low airfares, they will also have convenient access to a new purpose-built low-cost facility in Saint-Hubert near downtown Montréal.”

Abbotsford Airport just opened their $5 million terminal expansion, something YHM could really use.

Speaking of airport expansion. Check out item 14.9 at Hamilton council last week. The item was confidential. Looks like something may be in the works. I believe tradeport is responsible for capital upgrades based on the long term lease agreement.

Could be for the lands next to KF Aerospace for their expansion.

The item says "subject matter pertains to a proposed or pending acquisition or disposition of land for City purposes".
The disposition of airport property to allow more land to be designated airside would need to occur for KF's expansion, so it's a good possibility.

The owners of the company who operate Hamilton International are YVR Airport Services (YVRAS), who in turn are owned by Vancouver Airport Authority. So hopefully YVRAS have some pull with Jetlines to keep Hamilton as a destination.

Agree, hopefully Hamilton cost per customer is lower than YYZ.

In Canada Jetlines PowerPoint Presentation, that is up to-date as it shows the recent YVR home base announcement in it, it states in its "MAJOR MILESTONES ACCOMPLISHED" "Announced partnerships with Saint-Hubert, Hamilton and several Mexico airports". Page 14
