It really should just be Northern Liberties. Historically, it was. All of the old maps before the 1854 Act of Consolidation show Northern Liberties (it was it's own city until 1854) going right up to Vine street where Philadelphia started.

SoNo...really? c'mon. That sounds terrible.
Callowhill is already a defined area to the west of this area.

So its East Callowhill, or East Callow to be trendy.

I envision all of these big boxy warehouse building being demo'd one day. Its a great location.
2nd to 8th st. ... Spring Garden to Callowhill St.
With the curvy Willow st. being like a south street with bars and art galleries. It would be cool.
It's Northern Liberties. I've literally never heard anyone claim Spring Garden Street east of 6th not being Northern Liberties.

SoNo is just short for Southern Northern Liberties. My problem with calling this area Northern Liberties is Center City is Spring Garden to South Street, River to River. NoLibs is a neighborhood in North Philadelphia, not Center City. However, the NLNA (Northern Liberties neighborhood association) does have their boundaries run down to Callowhill on the south end. Therefore, I’m fine calling this area either SoNo or simply Northern Liberties.

Center City's northern border is Vine Street. (see original boundaries of the the City of Philadelphia on the map above)

As perhaps a minor quibble, the Northern Liberties, while not Center City, has never been part of North Philadelphia. For one thing, Northern Liberties, Spring Garden, and Kensington have their own unique identities; their names as independent districts predate the use of the term “North Philadelphia” by many decades, if not centuries. Moreover, it would even be hard to make the case that areas further west — for example, around Broad & Spring Garden — are in North Philadelphia. In searching for a name for the lower Northern Liberties, it might be worth recalling that in the 18th century, the area was called “Camptown” because of the British army barracks located there.

That's not true. Plenty of official administrative things list Northern Liberties as of lower north philadelphia. It has more to do with a functional standpoint than any cultural significance.

Well, I suppose you are correct. After googling, I see that even from a cultural standpoint, N.L. is often perceived to be part of greater "North Philadelphia." Wikipedia points out, however, that some believe that North Philadelphia begins at Spring Garden Street, while others say it begins at Vine. As I indicated earlier, these arguments are hardly of major significance.

The original borders for N Philly and S Philly are South St & North St,

WHAT AN "IN YOUR FACE" ENTRANCE TO THE CITY!

Tony got his wings back!

This district is so distinct, Callowhill > Spring Garden, from it's north AND it's south that it deserves it's own moniker.

All the green space Wood > Callowhill better consolidated into a more developed ~SINGLE green space with bike "skyway" and better coordinated with Second Street park plans, Waterfront parks/bike lane, Franklin Square, Mall.

SEFTA I think you should try to get in with development with the city, most of your plans are the biggest and most landish ideas but, I think some of them can actually be implemented
