Are they making a big deal about the Glover road overpass being replaced because of the new height or what? Like why do they keep some of these vintages of overpasses and not others? Couldn’t they shoe horn and extra lane under the existing glover rd overpass?

It's pretty tight under there - they probably could but it would violate modern design standards. The existing bridge is old, it would likely need to be replaced at some point anyway, and replacing it now with a new one able to handle 4 or 5 Highway 1 lanes in each direction is an investment in the future.

But they did it with the 192 overpass…

True enough. I dunno, I guess there must be some specific issue with the Glover Road overpass that's prompting this. It has a lower clearance than 192nd, but you'd think if that was the only issue then they could solve it more easily simply by excavating more space underneath.

It’s just so inconsistent, I don’t get it. They replace some old overpasses and leave others.

I believe the delay to replace the 192 st overpass is completely the fault of Surrey. When BC widened Hwy 1, 10+ years ago, they were in discussions with Surrey about the alignment of the new overpass (192 St or Harvie Rd). And to this day Surrey still hasn't figured out what configuration they want.

It’s down to 1 lane alternating traffic now, with 24/7 traffic management crews as well. Hilarious

Glover overpass was such a tiny low crossing I'm not too sad its being replaced. It must be the oldest one in the Valley.

Could you elaborate please? The linked article says that crews "used overnight lane diversions to demolish one half of the bridge at a time". Did crews not complete the demolition?

Sorry I drove though before they had finished. I guess they finished the next night.

This is the "Highway 1 Improvements, 216th to 264th" thread, is it not? 'Cause that's exactly what the linked article is about.
