^ In the upper photo, the building looks like a stack of washing machines.

I love this tower. Can't get enough of skinny Manhattan residential supertalls.

Hopefully, this guy will opt to launder his money in Miami instead and something appropriate can be built here.

The prior rendering we saw was with a clear glass. This one looks mirrored/chrome.

I remember absolutely hating this. Now it is not quite so bad to me-especially if they go with the mirrored/chrome scheme on both the blank side and the "punch hole" small windows side.

With so much going up, it won't look that bad really.

Is it even going to get built though?

It's the very same design. we only saw the building rendered from certain angles prior to this. The east face is a shear wall and the core is offset to the west. The North and South faces are unobstructed glass.

and yes, we did get a glimpse of the mirrored side with the punch-out windows

the "punch hole" windows side did not look as mirror/chrome like. I can't say about the opposite side since we really have not seen that side shown. If it was done in the way this latest render posted shows(with the mirror/chrome finish) it just might possibly be palatable.

*it is kind of not a good sign that they will not give a good clear rendering of the blank side though. It will look like a smaller box attached to the back of a bigger box though, right?-it looks like it will be about ten feet shorter on each of the sides that are all glass.

It appears that this disaster is dead!

I'm as pleased about this as I am about the death of HFZ's eyesore that was planned for 29th and 5th and Macklowe's crazy tower near St. Patrick's.

Yes! Was the original tower knocked down?

Neither tower is dead. The designs might change, but obviously both towers will be built.

The HFZ site has approved permits and the foundation is mostly dug. The Fifth Ave. site has approved permits and is already demolished.

The HFZ tower will likely be built exactly as is, though I imagine the Fifth Ave. tower might have to be redesigned, assuming they can't get the air rights from the third lot. Or was there some other purpose to the 262 Fifth lot, as it clearly isn't part of the tower design?

Yeah, the design could (and should) change. We'll see what that's about. But whoever brought the site will obviously seek to take advantage of it.

City records show the developer still owns the project site and only sold 260 Fifth.
260's air rights were recently transferred to the development site.

So basically, nothing happened.

To the extent that a different developer will build here, this HIDEOUS tower won’t rise. I’ll gladly take a 1,000’ Stern.

So, someone updated the topic from 40 to 60 floors. Where did that information come from?

Edit: Whoops, got this confused with 740 8th Ave.

Last edited by Drcastro; Jun 14, 2021 at 6:33 PM. Reason: My confusion
