Scrolling through the many renderings of "mixed use" projects that are proposed or under construction, I feel like it would be better to just eradicate all zoning in the area rather than to force everything into the same 4-5 story mold. No variety in height, this is a mistake and a wasted opportunity. I'd love if there were some kind of tradeoff where you can build higher if you preserve an old bungalow, warehouse, or trailer eatery zone. Mix it up, get crazy. East Austin's at risk of becoming a sterile facade of creative pretense. Only yuppies can afford to live in the new places, so the ethnic communities are being decimated by unimaginative gentrification, with developers reducing East Austin's culture to little more than hollow marketing slogans. "Creative living space" is a typical phrase, meaning nothing and signifying the developer's vague awareness that it might be good PR to use the word "creative" in brochures. [/rant]

The Tyndall is a multi-family development located just east of I-35 atop Robertson Hill, the highest geographic point in downtown Austin. The development boasts exceptional views of the skyline and offers tenants easy access to the vibrant culture of East Austin. The thoughtfully created homes and living spaces are designed to allow individuals, families and friends feel comfortable, connected and cultured.

The true gem of the development is the 23,000 SF of common open space, centered on encouraging and preserving community. Common spaces at The Tyndall have been intentionally designed to promote a sense of community, while maintaining an element of personal privacy. Friends and neighbors can gather to grill under the iconic shade structure or retreat to the courtyard or grotto for relaxation and peace.

Our scope includes the design of an iconic shade structure, an expansive pool deck with views of downtown, outdoor kitchens, an intimate grotto area with a variety of seating and gathering options and a peaceful community courtyard with a fire pit and detailed landscape.

The Tyndall is currently under construction.

More office space for artists, designers, gamers and other creative types is coming to East Austin.

Central Austin Management Group, which developed a complex of artists’ studios and galleries in East Austin called Canopy, plans to break ground in July on Springdale General, a campus of 15 commercial buildings on Springdale Road, just up the street from Canopy.

Kline Hotel at 1109 East 6th Street. The elevations show it to be 59 feet 10 inches to the main roof parapet.

Sadly, I hear this is dead. Our suburban oriented land development code requires too many parking spaces for it to work.

If all of you are not involved somehow in CodeNEXT--I wish you would do so.

My first attempt at a project update. Don't judge. The Platform on east MLK looks cool! I like the wood facade.

I like the relatively small footprint on this one. I like it when there's more diversity on each block (i.e., more buildings).

As long as they keep it maintained, it should last for a long time and continue to look great. If weathering gets it, then it'll look horrible after a while.

I like it as is right now. Looks great!
